By Buy Side StaffThe Buy Side staff shops for a living, which also means we spend an inordinate amount of time scrutinizing gift options. To help you shop for nice prices, we limited our list to our favorites that are on sale now for Black Friday. She asked for compression socks, so I’m buying her these pretty ones in blue chevron to help her with recovery. It would make a great gift for a college student, new grad or really anyone who could use a travel gear upgrade. It’s a great set to update your kitchen or give as a gift this holiday season.” —Emily Welsh, VP and general manager

By Buy Side StaffAmazon Prime Big Deal Days are here, which means it’s time to save on products across the mega-retailer’s offerings. For that I recommend this Bose SoundLink Revolve+ ii portable speaker on sale with 40% off for $199. That will soon change, since I’m buying a sparkling water maker from Sodastream while it’s more than 30% off. Now I’m excited to add this standing lamp that’s currently on sale to introduce some fun colors to my home. And while it’s already a good deal at $25, it’s an even better one now that it’s on sale for under $20 during Prime Big Deal Days.” —Madeline Diamond, staff editor

To my surprise, one simple solution has taken out some of the sting, saving us hundreds of dollars: The Prime Visa credit card (previously known as the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature). (Note: To be eligible you need an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $139 per year.) I knew the Prime Visa existed—I’ve been writing about personal finance for 11 years—still, when my husband suggested we apply, I was skeptical. With my daughter about to turn one, I hope our Amazon spending will slow down a bit (though some experienced parents may smirk at my optimism). Either way, I’ll continue to put any Amazon purchases on this card and would recommend it to any new parents.

Should I Choose My Home State’s 529?
  + stars: | 2023-05-26 | by ( ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +5 min
Why your home state’s 529 can make senseThere are several reasons college savers usually prefer to use their home state’s 529 plan. What to know about Pennsylvania’s 529Pennsylvania’s 529, known as the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program, is quite good by all accounts. A big reason: Pennsylvania residents who fund the in-state 529 plan are eligible for a number of valuable benefits through the state’s SAGE Scholar Program, which aims to help Pennsylvania families afford higher education. The program lets participants earn points that translate into an annual reward of up to 10% on the account value of your Pennsylvania 529. But don’t sweat it if you can’t contribute as much as you’d like to your child’s 529 plan every year.
