FEMA has dedicated disaster relief money that cannot be used for other purposes. A Black teacher and musician told a federal court Thursday that members of a white nationalist hate group punched, kicked and beat him with metal shields during a march through downtown Boston two years ago. Charles Murrell III, of Boston, was in federal court Thursday to testify in his lawsuit asking for an undisclosed amount of money from the group’s leader, Thomas Rousseau. “I thought I was going to die,” Murrell said, according to The Boston Globe. The newspaper said that U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani last year found the group and Rousseau, of Grapevine, Texas, liable for the attack after Rousseau didn’t respond to a civil lawsuit Murrell filed. The march in Boston by about 100 members of the Texas-based Patriot Front was one of its so-called flash demonstrations it holds around the country.

Elon Musk said late on Thursday he will attend Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania later this week, an event which will mark the former U.S. president’s return to the town where he survived an assassination attempt in July. “I will be there to support!” Musk replied, to a post by Trump on social media platform X saying he was returning to Butler on Saturday. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, called Republican presidential candidate Trump “tough” and officially endorsed him after he survived an assassination attempt in Butler on July 13, cementing his shift towards right-wing politics. The Oct. 5 rally will be held at the same ground, where Trump was grazed in the right ear and one rallygoer was killed when a gunman opened fire. Kamala Harris, a Democrat, faces Trump on Nov. 5 in what polls show to be a tight presidential race.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has surpassed Jeff Bezos as the world’s second richest person, reports CNBC. Zuckerberg’s net worth reached $206.2 billion on Thursday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, topping the $205.1 billion net worth of the former Amazon CEO and president. The Facebook co-founder now trails Tesla chief Elon Musk by roughly $50 billion, the index showed. The company’s online advertising system suffered a major setback in 2021 when Apple introduced an iOS privacy update that weakened its ability to track users across the web. Investors reacted favorably to Meta’s cost cutting while the company’s online advertising business began to rebound and was bolstered by the massive digital ad spending campaigns by Chinese-linked retailers Temu and Shien.

SYDNEY, Australia — A court in Australia upheld an order on Friday for Elon Musk’s X to pay a fine of 610,500 Australian dollars ($418,000) for failing to cooperate with a regulator’s request for information about anti-child-abuse practices. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday. This is not the first conflict between Musk and the Australian internet safety regulator. The eSafety Commissioner earlier this year ordered X to remove posts showing a bishop in Australia being stabbed during a sermon. X challenged the order in court on the grounds that a regulator in one country should not decide what internet users viewed around the world, and ultimately kept the posts up after the Australian regulator withdrew its case.

Cuban said during the podcast episode that he was once enthusiastic about the prospect of an outsider running for office. Cuban told the podcast hosts that he would ask Trump about his campaign's ground game, and Cuban said Trump would brush off concerns: "Yeah, I got the evangelicals doing all that, I'm not worried about it." Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke directly to Elon Musk Friday on the billionaire's X platform, part of an effort to counter false conspiracies about federal disaster aid for victims of Hurricane Helene that Musk spread on X, where his follower count stands over 200 million. "No one is shutting down the airspace and FAA doesn't block legitimate rescue and recovery flights," wrote Buttigieg. Buttigieg was replying to a post from Musk that falsely claimed the Federal Aviation Administration was shutting down airspace in the disaster zone and "throttling" flights transporting supplies. An FAA spokesperson told CNBC, "There are no airspace restrictions in place in North Carolina as rescue efforts continue because of Hurricane Helene. Musk frequently uses X to provoke -- but in lashing out at FEMA on Friday, he escalated his battle with the U.S. government.

Europe is clamping down on Chinese electric cars. European automakers are facing plunging EV sales and pressure over looming emissions targets. AdvertisementEurope is clamping down on Chinese electric cars — but the move to protect the continent's automakers could create a new problem for the likes of Volkswagen and BMW. The European Union voted to impose sweeping tariffs on Chinese EV makers on Friday as it seeks to protect its automotive industry from what the bloc claims are unfairly subsidized cheap Chinese electric vehicles. The European tariffs come after the US introduced its own trade restrictions against Chinese EVs earlier this year.

And it’s a playbook that former President Donald Trump’s campaign has tossed aside. It’s a gamble, Trump’s campaign internally acknowledges, but one that they insist is built on data they have collected over nearly a decade and tested for the past six months. Days later, the Michigan state party chairman also plugged 10xVotes when he rolled into Traverse City, Michigan, alongside Trump running mate JD Vance. But rather than courting those voters, Trump’s campaign is in search of new ones. Trump’s campaign has also tried to seize on discord within the Democratic coalition.
