Police officers arrested 13 pro-Palestinian protesters on Wednesday who had barricaded themselves in the office of the president of Stanford University and demanded that administrators meet several demands, including a vote by the university trustees on whether to divest from companies that are said to support Israel's military. The protesters had entered the building around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and university police officers arrived at the scene after they were alerted of the occupation, according to Ms. Mostofi. The building houses the offices of the university’s president, Richard Saller, and provost, Jenny Martinez, among others. Wednesday is the final day of classes for the spring quarter at Stanford. An encampment that Pro-Palestinian protesters established in late April remains on a campus quad.

In the wake of the hit-and-run report, Stanford’s public safety department said that it was deploying additional security at “key locations” on campus.

As the death toll rises in the Israel-Hamas war, they have become seats of anguish. On many campuses, these students agree on one thing: Their colleges, which are increasingly staking out positions of neutrality, have not done enough to support them. College officials, already under pressure to allow conservative opinions on campus, have been trying to preserve free speech and open debate. Some students were angry that a statement from the university president did not go far enough to acknowledge Palestinian deaths. “It shouldn’t be hard to support Palestinian rights and dignity ... while still condemning what Hamas did to Israeli civilians,” Spitalnick said.

"The world is rapidly evolving — and so is the college experience." Srivastava is one of a soaring number of Gen Zers who has decided to skip college altogether. The widening gap between the value and the cost of college has started to shift Gen Z's attitude toward higher education. They're not as interested in the typical "college experience" — whiling away four years rooming with friends and drinking at frat parties. But other members of Gen Z are taking a hard look at the "essence" of college.

July 19 (Reuters) - The president of Stanford University, one of the most prestigious U.S. schools, announced plans on Wednesday to resign his post after an independent review ordered by its board of trustees found flaws in his research as a neuroscientist. Those allegations were in connection with Alzheimer's disease research carried out when Tessier-Lavigne was the executive vice president of research drug discovery at the U.S. biotechnology company Genentech Inc. But the review of 12 research papers dating over two decades found that when concerns about the research were raised, "Tessier-Lavigne failed to decisively and forthrightly correct mistakes in the scientific record." As a result of the review, Tessier-Lavigne said he was going to retract three papers and correct another two. The board of trustees named Richard Saller, a professor in Stanford's Department of Classics, as interim president beginning Sept. 1.
