One of Sweden's oldest burger chains wants its customers to stop eating so much red meat. Beef has the largest climate impact of any food, largely because cows burp methane and need vast amounts of land. Since then, Max Burgers has labeled menu items with their carbon footprints and started offering a lot more chicken and plant-based burgers. He added that because Max Burgers is family-owned, it can take more risks than publicly-traded fast food chains worried about their stock price. In 2016, the company quintupled its plant-based options, Török said, including a "green burger" that's been changed several times.

Finland's F/A-18 Hornets — which used to be the US Navy's standard fighter — are already compatible with NATO air forces. This puts several squadrons of stealth fighters on Russia's northern border, with the potential to penetrate and suppress Russian air defenses, and hit vital targets. "Both Finland's and Sweden's proximity allows NATO air forces to stage closer to the Baltics. Similarly, Sweden's Gotland island — located almost midway in the Baltic, about 60 miles from the Swedish mainland and 80 miles from the Baltic States — provides NATO with an advanced outpost. Their air forces are vital for this Nordic push, and will become very useful to further deter and defend the increasingly contested arctic space with Russia."

Strong margins, revenue growth and insulation from automotive market headwinds have UBS labeling Sweden's Autoliv as a "growth safe haven story." Autoliv is isolated from short-term industry concerns, such as electric vehicle penetration, "intense capital allocation or China underexposure," UBS analyst Juan Perez-Carrascosa wrote on Tuesday. UBS upgraded Autoliv, a maker of seatbelts, airbags and steering wheels, to buy from neutral and raised its price target by 38% to $141 from $102, which was far below Friday's close at $125.73. The new target implies further upside of 12% for Autoliv, which is up 17% in 2024 after soaring 44% in 2023. ALV YTD mountain Autoliv stock has climbed more than 14% in 2024.

Putin's goal is to gain control of the Baltic Sea," Micael Bydén told German news outlets, according to Politico's translation of his remarks. "The Fed is the central bank most able to chart its own course," Citi economist Andrew Hollenhorst said in a client note Wednesday. It was the first time the Riksbank had cut since 2016 and takes its main policy rate down to 3.75%. The Riksbank's move was the second central bank cut of the year, as the Swiss National Bank reduced its key rate a quarter point in March in what was seen as a surprise action. Reductions from the Bank of England and European Central Bank are expected to come next, possibly within a month. "With the exception of Japan, developed markets are embarking on a program of rate cuts," Hollenhorst said.

Drayage trucks, which bring cargo from ports to warehouses nearby, must make the move to electric by 2035 in the U.S. state. Transitioning fleets to electricAcross the Atlantic, Dutch brewer Heineken recently partnered with Swedish electric truck start-up Einride to make the transition to electric. Getting more electric trucks to carry cargo on the road, especially for long-distance journeys, will need to be spearheaded by cargo owners that want their goods moved sustainably. Many of the new trucks will be deployed in markets where DFDS has not yet moved to electric trucks, including in the U.K. In California, Lime's use of electric trucks has been driven by legislation that states all drayage trucks must be zero-emissions by 2035.

Ericsson to lay off 1,200 people in Sweden amid challenging market
  + stars: | 2024-03-25 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
Sweden's Ericsson on Monday said it would lay off about 1,200 employees in Sweden as a part of costs cuts announced earlier this year, citing a challenging mobile networks market and lower volumes in 2024. After a few years of high demand for 5G equipment, buying by telecom providers has slowed, prompting firms such as Ericsson and Nokia to lay off thousands of employees to save costs. "As previously stated, Ericsson expects a challenging mobile networks market in 2024, with further volume contraction as customers remain cautious," the company said in a statement. Ericsson will continue its initiatives to increase operational efficiency during 2024, but will not make any separate statements on those, it added. Ericsson had told Reuters in January it could look at further cost cuts this year including layoffs but without giving a specific number.

Turkish and U.S. officials held comprehensive talks about the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and various bilateral issues during meetings in Washington, Turkey's foreign minister said late on Friday. The NATO allies started the meetings, dubbed the Strategic Mechanism, on Thursday to discuss efforts to move beyond deep policy disagreements and improve cooperation in other areas. Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan said officials from the countries held several rounds of discussions on topics including Syria, the Ukraine, Gaza, defense industry cooperation, energy, and counterterrorism. Turkey is also deeply concerned over U.S. support for Kurdish militants in Syria, whom Ankara deems terrorists. He said Turkey was open to discussing the matter but Washington needed to be "open minded".
