Passengers said a pressurization issue on a Delta Air Lines flight Sunday left them with bloody noses and ears. A spokesperson for the airline company said that Flight 1203 from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, was unable to pressurize above 10,000 feet. Passenger Jaci Purser told NBC affiliate KSL-TV of Salt Lake City that she felt her ear pop and then bubble because of the pressure in the cabin. It's not clear what caused the pressurization issue but Delta technicians were able to fix it. The plane was briefly taken out of service Sunday morning and went back into service the following day, Delta said.

Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder and chief executive officer of Inflection AI UK Ltd., speaks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Jan. 18, 2024. In March, Microsoft announced the hiring of Suleyman from Inflection, along with a number of other key employees at the firm. Suleyman was appointed Microsoft's executive vice president and CEO of Microsoft AI. The CMA had not previously spelled out exactly how the hiring of Inflection AI employees could undermine competition. The Inflection arrangement isn't the only pact with a Big Tech company and AI startup that regulators in the U.K. are assessing.

The U.K. competition regulator on Thursday referred the proposed merger between Vodafone and CK Hutchison's Three mobile network to an in-depth investigation. The CMA has given itself a deadline of Sept. 18 to complete the in-depth probe, also known as a phase 2 investigation. The CMA has previously said the deal could lead to customers facing higher prices and reduced quality, a lessening of competition in the U.K. mobile market. Announced last year, Vodafone and CK Hutchison's transaction would merge the two brands' U.K. businesses, giving Vodafone a 51% controlling stake and leaving CK Hutchison with the minority interest. Vodafone and Three reiterated that "there will be no change to each operator's pricing strategy as a result of the merger."

The CFPB accused a student-debt relief company, Performance SLC, of illegally charging borrowers fees. The company didn't admit any wrongdoing but is no longer allowed to offer debt relief services. Performance never admitted any wrongdoing and agreed to a settlement that bans the company from engaging in any debt relief services going forward. Over the past few years, the CFPB has been getting relief to thousands of borrowers after paying companies for debt relief services that are free of charge with the federal government. In 2022, for example, the CFPB accused five student debt relief companies of charging consumers unnecessary fees, resulting in a total payment amount to consumers of about $19 million.

United Launch Alliance plans to launch the inaugural flight of its Vulcan rocket on Christmas Eve, CEO Tory Bruno told CNBC's Morgan Brennan on Tuesday. The Vulcan rocket for the Cert-1 mission stands at SLC-41 during testing in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on May 12, 2023. ULA's path to the first Vulcan launch faced several delays earlier this year, including the explosion of an engine during testing by its supplier Blue Origin, previously reported by CNBC. Following the incident, Bruno told CNBC in a "Manifest Space" podcast interview that the company still planned to fly its heavy-lift rocket by late 2023. The company added a massive contract to launch Amazon's Kuiper satellites to its previously government-heavy backlog for Vulcan.

Gold pulled back from near record highs as the dollar bounced and Fed Governor Christopher Waller added weight to the prospect of another rate hike, saying the central bank's lack of progress on slowing inflation meant rates needed to move higher. While the economic data suggests the U.S. economy is slowing and next month's expected rate hike may be its last, how long rates stay at the highest since the onset of the global financial crisis in 2007 is unclear. Trump's Scottish golf courses recorded more losses in 2021

LONDON, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump's two Scottish golf courses lost 4.4 million pounds ($5.44 million) in 2021, according to accounts released on Thursday, continuing a consistent run of red ink at the clubs under his ownership. SLC Turnberry Ltd., which manages the famed Turnberry golf resort, said closure for part of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to pre-tax losses of 3.7 million pounds. Trump International Golf Club Scotland Ltd, which operates a club Trump built north of Aberdeen, reported a pre-tax loss of 697,000 pounds. The results were helped by the companies receiving just over 1 million pounds in COVID payroll support from the UK government. In a surprise move, the Canadian government said earlier this month that it had decided to cease issuance of real return bonds (RRBs), citing low demand. That makes them an expensive form of financing for the government, but cost should not be the only consideration, investors say. The median allocation by defined benefit pension plans, a major category, to RRBs was 5.2% in 2021, data covering members of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) shows. U.S. Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) could act as a proxy but are not an exact hedge against Canadian inflation. Breakeven rates are the difference between yields on nominal and real return bonds.
COLOMBO, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said on Monday it has suspended Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket following his arrest in Sydney over an alleged sexual assault and will not consider him for any selections. The 31-year-old was charged with sexual assault while in Australia to play in the T20 World Cup and was denied bail by a court in Sydney on Monday. "The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket decided to suspend national player Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket with immediate effect and will not consider him for any selections..." the SLC said in a statement. Gunathilaka played a first round World Cup match against Namibia but was ruled out of the remainder of the T20 tournament with a hamstring injury. The Sri Lankan team were eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup, losing to England on Saturday in their final match of the tournament.
