AdvertisementThe world's top two AI startups are ignoring requests by media publishers to stop scraping their web content for free model training data, Business Insider has learned. OpenAI and Anthropic have been found to be either ignoring or circumventing an established web rule, called robots.txt, that prevents automated scraping of websites. TollBit, a startup aiming to broker paid licensing deals between publishers and AI companies, found several AI companies are acting in this way and informed certain large publishers in a Friday letter, which was reported earlier by Reuters. It turns out that all this content has been stored in datasets that are the foundation for training powerful AI models, including those from OpenAI, Google, Meta, and others. Part of Google's response has been to launch a new tool that lets websites block the company from using their content for training AI models. BI asked Originality.ai CEO Jonathan Gillham why Google-Extended is being used less than other AI training data-blockers. NEW YORK (AP) — Airbnb on Tuesday donated a total of $10 million to more than 120 nonprofits in 44 countries on six continents, the short-term rental giant's latest outlays in its unusual distribution of $100 million through its Airbnb Community Fund. “Airbnb has a 21st century company view,” said Janaye Ingram, Airbnb’s director of community partner programs and engagement. By supporting nonprofits that its hosts find valuable, Airbnb can get more funding to groups that help keep their communities strong, Ingram said. Canadian Tire said it expects an annualized run-rate savings of about C$50 million ($36.31 million) as a result of the headcount reduction. Canadian Tire, whose shares were down 2% in afternoon trading, reported adjusted profit of C$2.96 per share, below LSEG estimates of C$3.29 per share. It, however, beat third-quarter revenue expectations, as well as announced an additional C$200.0 million share repurchase program.
