Iga Swiatek beat Coco Gauff in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) on Thursday to reach her fourth French Open final. After 10 days of mostly solid tennis, Gauff’s tournament ended in a flurry of scorching winners and spraying errors, against a player who generally makes opponents pay for nearly every one. Yet, with the win on Thursday, Swiatek expanded her career-long domination of Gauff to 11 wins in 12 matches. Swiatek broke Gauff’s serve in the next two games, the second time without Gauff winning a point. After Gauff saved two match points, and a third on Swiatek’s serve, the fourth was too far — Swiatek sailing through the finish line in 97 minutes.

CNN —Coco Guaff survived a minor scare in her first-round match at this year’s US Open in front of an A-list crowd in New York. Barack and Michelle Obama joined the likes of tennis great Billie Jean King, fashion designer Anna Wintour and US ski icon Lindsey Vonn in watching Gauff progress into the next round. “I actually just met [the Obamas] right before I came in here,” Gauff told reporters after her win, according to the WTA. I think I’m going to never forget that moment for the rest of my life.”Barack Obama and Michelle Obama attend the match between Gauff and Laura Siegemund. She fights to the end and that’s what she did today,” Gauff told reporters, after a fiery encounter where both players clashed with the umpire over the time each was taking between points.

Siegemund was handed a point penalty on game point to give Gauff a 5-1 lead, a decision she disagreed with, telling the umpire that Gauff was playing "extremely fast" as boos rained down on her. Siegemund refused to go away and broke to cut the lead to 5-3 with the help of three double faults by Gauff. "It was a tough match, I wasn't playing my best tennis.
