A group of bipartisan House members introduced legislation on Thursday to award the Congressional Gold Medal to a Capitol police officer who deterred a mob away from the Senate chamber during last week's deadly riots. Reps. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., and Nancy Mace, R-S.C., credited officer Eugene Goodman for "his bravery and quick thinking during last week’s insurrection." National Guardsmen called up to defend the US Capitol paused for a photo with a statue of a civil rights icon only a week after a pro-Trump mob desecrated its halls. The tribute to Rosa Parks, who famously refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger, is the first full-length statue of a Black American in the US Capitol. Americans were shocked by the pro-Trump mob who sieged the Capitol in a deadly assault and who carried hate symbols like Confederate flags and Nazi-inspired ones — historical enemies US troops defeated in America's deadliest wars. “He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding.” “These facts require immediate actions by President Trump,” he continued. A few Republicans defended him, but most others simply argued that a rush to impeach Mr. Trump without a hearing or an investigation raised constitutional questions. With Democrats controlling the House, Mr. Trump is expected to become the first American president to be impeached twice. Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington sent a letter to Mr. Trump on Sunday asking for an emergency declaration to obtain additional funding for inauguration security. On Tuesday, a federal inspector general questioned an order to deliver the estimates before Mr. Trump leaves office, after whistle-blowers warned that the rush would imperil their accuracy.

Greg LeMond can’t quite believe it. “I keep going, ‘Why me?’” the three-time Tour de France winner told me earlier this week. On Dec. 4, President Trump signed a bill to award the 59-year-old LeMond the Congressional Gold Medal, an honor that required the approval of both the House and Senate and is considered the highest civilian award Congress can bestow. Past recipients include Thomas Edison, Charles Lindbergh and Rosa Parks. The brief list of athlete recipients is similarly iconic, with names like Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson and Arnold Palmer.

Over the past several years, the Microsoft co-founder has reviewed hundreds of books on his blog, from topics in business and leadership to history and science. "Still, I recently found myself reading a book so compelling that I couldn't turn away." "Theranos is the worst-case scenario of what happens when a CEO prioritizes personal legacy above all else," Gates wrote. "Unlike most books on leadership," Gates wrote, "this one is worth your time." Gates used to always suggest John Brooks' "Business Adventures" whenever someone asked him to recommend a business book.

The Michigan Senate's Republican majority leader and other state lawmakers were greeted Friday by protestors' signs saying "SHAME" and chants of "certify the vote" as he headed to meet with President Donald Trump. Trump is expected to lean on them to overturn President-elect Joe Biden's victory in that state, according to an NBC News report. Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and the others were confronted by about 20 protestors after they arrived at Reagan International Airport, just outside Washington, D.C., before their White House meeting. Romney was the 2012 GOP nominee for president; his late father, George Romney, had been governor of Michigan. That's what they're going to tell the president," the leader said.
