According to most polls, India’s election was a foregone conclusion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s right-wing, Hindu-nationalist alliance was expected to secure a supermajority – and with it the power to enact radical change unopposed. To Modi’s critics and opponents, India was on the fast track to becoming a de-facto one-party state. Going into this election, Modi had set a goal of winning 400 seats in the lower house of parliament, or Lok Sabha. The BJP’s inability to secure an outright majority “pricks the bubble of Modi’s authority,” wrote political scientist Pratap Bhanu Mehta Tuesday night.

U.S. crude oil, gasoline and distillate stocks rose last week, according to sources citing American Petroleum Institute figures. API figures showed crude stocks rose by more than 4 million barrels in the week ended May 31, against analysts' forecasts for a 2.3 million-barrel decline in a Reuters poll. Gasoline stocks also rose more than 4 million barrels, which was a much bigger build than the 2 million-barrel increase analysts had expected. Rising U.S. stocks could weigh heavily on investor sentiment around oil demand. Data for last week reflects fuel usage around the Memorial Day holiday, closely watched as it marks the start of U.S. driving season.

CNN —Sales of new electric vehicles have started to slow, but the opposite is happening with used EVs. The used car sales website Carvana saw its used EV sales more than double since last year. While increases in used EV sales are huge, they still make up a small portion of overall used vehicle sales. Used EVs still cost more, on average, than used gas-powered vehicles, but they cost a lot less than new EVs. While prices for new EVs average around $63,000, prices for used ones average around $36,000, according to Cars.com.

Sunak will likely point to falling inflation and a strengthening economy as proof that his plan to “restore economic stability” is working. Here’s what data shows has happened to wages, living standards, the value of the pound, house prices and waiting times for medical treatment on the NHS. “Poor income growth has been an unfortunate feature of economic life in the UK over the last 15 years. On average, households now spend more than 29% of their after-tax income on rent, up from 24% in 2010, according to Zoopla, a property company. NHS waiting lists have grown steadily since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, contributing to worker shortages in the UK.

"The company made a massive switch in its consumer mix," said Sandeep Rao, a senior researcher at Leverage Shares, an investment management company. As for competition, even if Nvidia's contenders appear weak, more entrants will grab market share. Beth Kindig, the CEO and lead tech analyst for the I/O Fund, estimates that AMD's market share could reach 20%. Nvidia and AMD have similar production costs since neither makes their GPUs but uses the same supplier, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC). "So AMD is a little bit behind in terms of performance," Rao said.

Consumer prices rose 75.45% in May on an annual basis and 3.37% on a monthly basis, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute, a government agency. Economists had previously forecast that inflation in the country of 85 million would peak around 75%.
