REUTERS/Eric Cox/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsCHICAGO, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Chicago is grappling with local backlash against moving homeless migrants into a new government-run tent encampment as temperatures drop and more migrants continue to arrive. Hundreds of migrants are still sleeping on floors or in tents outside city police stations. Community members in Brighton Park are suing the city to try to stop construction, saying it violates Chicago zoning laws. "In May, Mayor Johnson welcomed migrants to Chicago, saying the city has 'enough room' for them," Eze said in a statement.

A screenshot purporting to show a tweet about migrants published on Christmas Eve by Governor of Texas Greg Abbott has misled some online. The fabricated tweet purportedly published via Abbott’s official Twitter account (@GregAbbott_TX) features a photograph of Abbott and his family and reads: “We celebrated Christmas Eve by putting migrants on a bus and kicking them out into the freezing cold. Merry Christmas from the Abbott family.”The screenshot circulated after busloads of migrants from the Texas border were dropped near Vice President Kamala Harris’ home in Washington, D.C., on Christmas Eve, and The White House accused Abbott of endangering lives (here). A spokesperson for Abbott did not respond to a request for comment about the fabricated screenshot or whether the governor was behind the incident in Washington D.C. Abbott did tweet the same photograph of his family on Dec. 25, although with a different comment that reads: “From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!” (here)VERDICTFalse.
A contractor busing the migrants has been banned from speaking with New York City officials, the AP reported. Manuel Castro, commissioner of the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, told the AP that complicates efforts to meet and provide resources for migrants being sent from Texas. Volunteer groups rely in tips for help as they wait for hours in New York's Port Authority for buses from Texas to arrive. Greg Abbott has been sending buses of migrants to democratic cities like Washington D.C. and New York to President Joe Biden's immigration policies. The AP reported that so far about 8,000 migrants were bused from Texas to Washington D.C. and another 2,200 were bused to New York City.
