CNN —Just days after three New Jersey public school systems simultaneously enacted policies requiring educators to notify parents of changes in their children’s gender identity, the state is pursuing legal action. New Jersey State Attorney General Matthew Platkin announced the complaints against the Middletown Township, Marlboro Township and Manalapan-Englishtown Regional boards of education, all in Monmouth County. When contacted by phone on Friday, a representative of the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District declined to comment on the matter. CNN has reached out to the Middletown Township Public School District. In May, state officials also filed a civil rights complaint after similar changes were enacted at the Hanover Township Board of Education.

CNN —The suspect in the leak of classified Pentagon documents posted on social media has been charged under the Espionage Act with unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information and unauthorized removal of classified information and defense materials. According to charging documents, Teixeira held a top secret security clearance and allegedly began posting information about the documents online around December 2022, and photos of documents in January. Investigators narrowed in on the potential members of the chat group with evidence collected following the discovery of the classified documents online. Four Discord users active in a different Discord chatroom where the documents later appeared told CNN the documents began circulating on Thug Shaker. Several former high school classmates of Teixeira’s told CNN Thursday that he had a fascination with the military, guns and war.
A Massachusetts school finally can turn off its lights, which have been on since August 2021 due to a technical glitch. "We are very much aware this is costing taxpayers a significant amount of money," a school official told NBC. Reflex Lighting, the company contracted to fix the lights, arrived at the school this week to reprogram the faulty system and begin turning off the lights, NBC Boston reported. Part of the issue was that ownership of the software company changed several times after the initial installation, according to NBC. "And yes, there will be a remote override switch so this won't happen again," Paul Mustone, president of Reflex Lighting, told NBC.

The teacher told Important Stories that only 50% of the staff at their school applied to donate to the soldiers. Russian soldiers, meanwhile, have been fleeing villages disguised as locals amid Ukraine's surprise counteroffensive in its Kharkiv region, The Washington Post and Financial Times reported Sunday. "Now the practice will expand," he told Important Stories, "because there isn't much money in the budget."
