Hours before the ban went into effect, numerous X users expressed how crucial the Brazilian community is to stan Twitter. Several Brazilian stan accounts shared their final posts with the tag #MeuUltimoTweet, or #MyLastTweet, and many have not posted since. The reaction from the international stan community to the Brazilian X ban underscores the contributions Brazilian fans have made to the evolution of online fandom. Brazilian fans have created popular memes, influenced how fans communicate with each other and introduced new terminology, Amado said. “Being a big stan account or an update account feels like it’s very invisible work,” Rodrigues said.

Venice, Italy CNN —Venice officials have hailed a temporary entrance fee to the city a success, as they experiment with measures aimed at controlling the number of people who come to visit. A 29-day €5 reservation entrance fee and reservation experiment, which began on April 25 and ran on selected days until July 14, brought in €2,425,310 (around $2.64 million), according to Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro. The city initially expected to collect around €700,000 (about $762,163) when the plan was introduced, the mayor had said in April. Gondola rides are one of the unique Venice attractions that have tourists flooding the city year-round. The entrance fee officially ended July 14, but the mayor’s office said they will now determine if they should reinstate it during busy times of the year.

Perched on the Corcovado – a 2,300-foot-high granite outcrop looming above the city – the Cristo Redentor (Christ Redeemer) statue sweeps its arms out in a warm embrace, welcoming visitors to the city of samba. “It is he who finds me when I arrive in Rio.”For over a century, the statue has been a symbol of Rio de Janeiro. Christ Redeemer bags are his top sellers, tied with those sporting the Sugarloaf Mountain. Deemed one of the seven modern wonders of the world, the Christ Redeemer is Rio’s most visited attraction, says tour guide Cristina Arroio. Maybe that’s the ultimate miracle of the Christ Redeemer.

In 2007, I had a conversation about the culture war with the evangelical pastor Tim Keller that I’ve never forgotten. Keller, who was the founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, died last year, a devastating loss. “I’ve long seen friendships flourish across political differences,” he told me. He was seeing the change everywhere. Your political or theological positions were becoming the primary measure of your virtue, and your conduct was a distant second.

Through his office window, the head of Brazil’s state-run oil company looked out at the cluttered landscape of Rio de Janeiro. Looking back at him, across the city’s run-down high-rises, was the looming statue of Christ the Redeemer. This, even as his country positions itself as a leader in the fight against climate change which, of course, is primarily driven by the burning of oil and other fossil fuels. Petrobras already pumps about as much crude oil per year as ExxonMobil, according to Rystad Energy, a market research firm. It’s an enormous predicament for Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, better known simply as Lula, who has fashioned himself as the pre-eminent world leader on climate issues.

A fan died in the sweltering heat at Friday night’s show in Rio de Janeiro. Swift postponed her Saturday show until Monday, to the dismay of thousands of fans who had already started filling the stadium. The military police said a fan who was in Rio de Janeiro for the regularly scheduled concert on Sunday was stabbed to death earlier that morning. The fatality and other problems were a departure from the triumphant first leg of Ms. Swift’s Eras Tour, a career-spanning production that broke records in North America. As the tour’s second show in Rio de Janeiro approached on Sunday night, fans grappled with ruined travel plans, extreme heat and disappointment.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov 18 (Reuters) - A young Brazilian fan of U.S. singer Taylor Swift died in Rio de Janeiro on Friday night after falling ill inside the superstar's sweltering concert venue amid a record-breaking heatwave across large swathes of Brazil, prompting the government to mandate the provision of water during the tour. Swift said Benevides died "before my show" but Benevides' friends told local media that she became ill after the concert began. Swift is scheduled to perform in Rio on Saturday and Sunday followed by three shows in São Paulo between November 24 and 26. On Thursday, Rio's Christ the Redeemer statue welcomed Swift to town ahead of her first set of concerts. The more serious version is heat-stroke, when the body's core temperature goes above 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40.6 degrees Celsius).

Except, this week, nobody is talking about the ‘beautiful game’ after the shameful racist abuse of Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. sent LaLiga into crisis management mode. Instead, it must pass investigations into incidents of racist abuse onto local prosecutors, who deal with them as legal cases. 10 when nine previous incidents of racist abuse seemingly were not enough to spark meaningful action? Vinícius Jr. points to a fan in the stand who allegedly racially abused him during Real Madrid's match at Valencia. Fort says CEOs called Sepp Blatter to ask him to step down as FIFA president.
“Nevertheless,” he continued, “we launched Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and by the end of 2007 it had grown to more than 5,000 attendees and had spawned more than a dozen daughter congregations in the immediate metropolitan area.”Today the church has several locations in Manhattan, though the main one is on West 83rd Street near Amsterdam Avenue; the others are on the Lower West Side, on the West Side at Lincoln Square, on the Upper East Side and in East Harlem. In addition to those who heard him preach in person at any one of those churches, thousands downloaded Mr. Keller’s weekly sermons from the Redeemer website. His dozens of books have been translated into 25 languages and sold an estimated 25 million copies. “Fifty years from now,” the journal Christianity Today wrote in 2006, “if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians.”
