At home, she and her younger siblings would watch the 1941 Disney animated film “Dumbo” on repeat.
The movie’s fantastical nature and its message of persevering against the odds resonated with her as a young girl.
And after graduating in 2000 with the expectation that she would pursue a practical, lucrative career in her home country, she enrolled in medical school.
No one in Veerasunthorn’s family had pursued a career in the arts.
“I was leaving behind something that, to a lot of people, family and friends, is a very solid career to do something that is unknown,” she said.
