☆ Raspberry Pi's strong first half sends share price up 7%

Raspberry Pi, the British computer company that floated in June, reported on Tuesday stronger-than-expected adjusted earnings of $20.9 million for the first half, sending its shares up 7% in early trade. The group, which produces low-cost single-board computers and microcontrollers, said it sold marginally fewer devices than it expected, but sales were skewed towards higher margin products, boosting profitability. Its flagship Raspberry Pi5,which retails for 46.60 pounds ($62.24) for the 2GB model, sold 1.1 million units in the six months to the end of June, it said. It said it expected volumes to increase in the second half, supported by product launches, but the mix would result in margins returning to lower levels and it kept its expectations for the year unchanged.

Raspberry Pi, which makes tiny single-board computers priced its shares at 280 pence apiece. The Raspberry Pi offering comprises 45.9 million ordinary shares sold by the company's existing majority shareholder, Raspberry Pi Mid Co Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It also includes 2.13 million ordinary shares sold by other shareholders, along with 11.23 million freshly issued shares. If there is more demand, a so-called overallotement option will allow the Raspberry Pi Foundation to issue another 4.6 million shares. In 2023, Raspberry Pi posted revenues of $265.8 million, up 41% year-on-year from 2022.

London CNN —Investors are snapping up the shares of a British maker of tiny computers after it went public on the London Stock Exchange Tuesday. Raspberry Pi stock soared as much as 40% in early trade before paring those gains slightly by 11.54 a.m. The Cambridge-based company started life in 2012 as a commercial subsidiary of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a charity founded four years earlier to promote computer science in schools. To date, Raspberry Pi has sold more than 60 million computers worldwide, according to its website. Raspberry Pi plans to invest the funds raised in developing its products and expanding its educational activities.

"That was really moving for my family because it was something that we had never really experienced before," Gill told Insider. It inspired her to create a fire-detection device that could identify fires faster than an average smoke detector and send a text to users to alert them of a fire. Ajmera told Insider the 30 finalists were judged on two factors: the projects themselves and a series of surprise challenges they completed in pre-assigned teams. Sony Semiconductor Solutions, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation, invested an undisclosed amount in Raspberry Pi Ltd, the trading company of Raspberry Pi, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Upton established Raspberry Pi in 2012 with the aim of making computing more accessible to young people. Raspberry Pi's tiny single-board computers are the size of a credit card and have been used to build everything from high-altitude balloons to small radio-controlled submarines. Raspberry Pi's customers were mainly hobbyists and teachers in the early days. The deal extends an existing manufacturing relationship between Sony and Raspberry Pi.
