The Teamsters on Wednesday declined to endorse a candidate for president, the first time in decades that the union hasn't backed a candidate in the presidential election. It found that almost 60% of rank-and-file union members preferred to endorse Trump, while 34% backed Harris, according to an electronic member poll. The law forced union workers to accept a union contract that had been brokered by the Biden administration. The union endorsed Biden in 2020. Air Canada said in a statement the terms of its new agreement with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) representing more than 5,200 pilots will remain confidential, pending a ratification vote by its members expected to be completed over the next month. “After several consecutive weeks of intense round-the-clock negotiations, progress was made on several key issues including compensation, retirement, and work rules,” said First Officer Charlene Hudy, chair of the Air Canada ALPA master executive council. As a result, some United pilots now earn 92% more than their counterparts at Air Canada, the pilots’ association’s data shows.

In 2021, at least 32 people were killed and 165 injured when two trains collided. Reuters —American Airlines flight attendants have ratified a new five-year contract with the airline, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) said on Thursday. With 95% of eligible flight attendants voting, 87% were in favor of the new deal, the union said. Flight attendants have also urged an end to the industry practice of not compensating crews for the time spent during boarding and waiting at the airport before and between flights. “Among the many improvements, the contract includes a new sit rig for compensation for long sits between flights, and American Airlines Flight Attendants become the first unionized workgroup to lock in pay for boarding,” APFA National President Julie Hedrick said. In addition to industry-leading wage rates, the new labor deal includes out-year wage increases and addresses many quality-of-life issues that the flight attendants have been advocating for, the union said.
