The Biden administration said this week that it opposed gender-affirming surgery for minors, the most explicit statement to date on the subject from a president who has been a staunch supporter of transgender rights. The draft guidelines would have lowered the age minimums to 14 for hormonal treatments, 15 for mastectomies, 16 for breast augmentation or facial surgeries, and 17 for genital surgeries or hysterectomies. The final guidelines, released in 2022, removed the age-based recommendations altogether. Levine shared her view with her staff that publishing the proposed lower ages for gender transition surgeries was not supported by science or research, and could lead to an onslaught of attacks on the transgender community,” an H.H.S. spokesman said in a statement on Friday evening.

Health officials in the Biden administration pressed an international group of medical experts to remove age limits for adolescent surgeries from guidelines for care of transgender minors, according to newly unsealed court documents. Age minimums, officials feared, could fuel growing political opposition to such treatments. If and when teenagers should be allowed to undergo transgender treatments and surgeries has become a raging debate within the political world. In the United States, setting age limits was controversial from the start. The draft guidelines, released in late 2021, recommended lowering the age minimums to 14 for hormonal treatments, 15 for mastectomies, 16 for breast augmentation or facial surgeries, and 17 for genital surgeries or hysterectomies.

REUTERS/Tom Brenner/Pool/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has recommended easing restrictions on marijuana, a department spokesperson said on Wednesday, following a review request from the Biden Administration last year. Nearly 40 U.S. states have legalized marijuana use in some form, but it remains completely illegal in some states and at the federal level. The scheduling recommendation for marijuana was provided to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) on Tuesday as part of President Biden's directive to HHS, the spokesperson said. "As part of this process, HHS conducted a scientific and medical evaluation for consideration by DEA. DEA will now initiate its review," a DEA spokesperson said.

REUTERS/Anna Rose LaydenWASHINGTON, June 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday hosted the largest Pride celebration in White House history on Saturday, calling for new measures to protect the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ people amid a spate of what he called "terrifying" attacks and legislation. Biden, a Democrat, urged Congress to pass the "Equality Act" which would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity for protection alongside race, religion, sex and national origin, and ban assault weapons. "Today, we say loud and clear - that you belong, that you are beautiful, that you are loved," she said. “I’ve seen people deterred from negotiating because they think [the advertised pay range] is set in stone. What you need to know about published rangesHere are three reasons why a published salary range is hardly the whole story:1. The published range may be very wide: It’s not hard to find advertised salary ranges so wide you could drive a truck through them. The published range for an open role usually just reflects your base pay, not bonuses, equity and annual increases. That way you’ll be able to gauge whether the employer’s published range is within reason for the role you’re seeking.
Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., on Tuesday announced his campaign for the Senate seat held by GOP Sen. Mike Braun, who decided against running for re-election in 2024 and will run for Indiana governor instead. Banks, a staunch ally of former President Trump, is the first candidate to enter the Senate race. Mitch Daniels if he jumps into the Senate race. Banks’ Senate campaign is endorsed by Rep. Larry Buschon, R-Ind., Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., state Rep. Michelle Davis and state Sen. Justin Busch. After Pelosi rejected Banks and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, McCarthy ultimately withdrew all five names.
Elon Musk said during a Twitter Space that there was no "breaking point" which made him buy the company. Instead, Musk said that general concerns about free speech online motivated him to purchase Twitter. Musk made his first offer to buy Twitter at $43 billion around three weeks later. "Basically, just, we are traveling the path more and more of suppression of free speech. Musk has previously called himself a "free speech absolutist," but has a track record of silencing his own critics.
Elon Musk expressed interest in reinstating the Babylon Bee's twitter account hours after he took over. According to The Washington Post, Musk thought the right-wing satire site shouldn't have been banned. The Babylon Bee had called Biden health official Rachel Levine, who is a transgender woman, "Man of the Year." The site's account was reinstated on Sunday, three weeks after his takeover of Twitter. Weeks before Musk's purchase, ex-wife Talulah Riley texted Musk criticizing the platform's decision to ban The Babylon Bee and calling for him to reverse the decision and make the platform "radically free speech."
Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, promising to uphold free speech, some accounts were reinstated. Some accounts previously banned or suspended have been revived, but in typical Musk fashion, the reinstatements haven't come without controversy. After 51% of respondents voted "yes," the billionaire owner restored Trump's Twitter account the next day. After five years, his Twitter account was reinstated. After being suspended, Peterson filmed a nearly 15-minute long YouTube video, saying he would rather die than delete the hateful tweet.
"Joe Biden and his political allies are indoctrinating your children," the flier, which NBC News reviewed, says in bold red letters translated from Spanish. "The primary motive behind that is to suppress Latino voters," he said. The Latino vote could be a factor in the outcome. Citizens for Sanity, a group associated with America First Legal, has also recently broadcast anti-immigration ads in California and Arizona. "Putting this out there could prevent a kid from receiving help that could prevent them from going down a darker path."
An assortment of conservatives are lobbying Elon Musk to undo Twitter bans on prominent allies. Musk has said he opposes permanent bans and plans to roll back moderation on Twitter. But Twitter is enforcing legal sanctions on the networks in the EU and UK which prevents people seeing their content. Twitter has said it never shadowbans anybody, though Musk said Friday he was "digging in" to the allegations. Evolutionary biologist and podcaster Bret Weinstein, who has long questioned COVID-19 vaccine efficacy, also called for Musk to reinstate anti-vaxxer Dr Robert Malone.
"Can you buy Twitter and then delete it, please!? xx" Riley allegedly texted Musk on March 24. It wasn't until April 14 that the billionaire offered to purchase the social media company. In the texts, "TJ" called social media the "scourge of modern life" and dubbed Twitter "worst of all." "Maybe buy it and change it to properly support free speech xx," Musk texted back.
