Read previewAs a health journalist, I write about the buzzy topic of gut health a lot. So when I noticed lots of gut experts saying they aim to eat 30 plants a week, I knew I had to give it a try. It found people who ate 30 plants a week had more diverse gut microbiomes than people who ate 10 or fewer. Gut health researchers believe that eating different types of fiber results in a more diverse and, therefore, healthier microbiome. AdvertisementHaving said all that, going into my weeklong experiment, 30 plants sounded like a lot.

CNN —Jupiter’s iconic Great Red Spot is a massive storm that has swirled within the atmosphere of the largest planet in the solar system for years. The Great Red Spot is a massive vortex within Jupiter’s atmosphere that is about 10,159 miles (16,350 kilometers) wide, which is similar to Earth’s diameter, according to NASA. Vincenzo Pinto/AFP/Getty ImagesWhile the first two scenarios resulted in cyclones, they differed in shape and other characteristics witnessed in the Great Red Spot. But the researchers believe that the persistent atmospheric storm cell, which resulted from intense wind instability, produced the Great Red Spot. Previous research, published in March 2018, has shown that the Great Red Spot is growing taller as it shrinks in size overall.

Putin Came to Asia to Disrupt, and He Succeeded

Four days in Asia. That’s all President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia needed to anger Washington, undermine Beijing and rattle a collection of Indo-Pacific nations already scrambling to cope with a jumbled world order. After stops in Pyongyang and Hanoi this week that were draped in Communist red, Mr. Putin left behind a redrawn map of risk in Asia. North Korea sat at the center: a rogue nuclear state that regularly threatens its neighbors, suddenly empowered by Russian promises of sophisticated military aid and a mutual defense pact. Mr. Putin also signed at least a dozen deals with Vietnam — a country of growing importance for both China and the United States as they vie for influence — where he insisted that “reliable security architecture” could not be built with “closed military-political blocs.”The trip was both defiant and disruptive.

CNN —The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says at least 22 people were killed in a strike that hit civilians sheltering in southern Gaza on Friday. The strike hit the tents of displaced people in the Palestinian town of Mawasi, parts of which have been identified by the Israeli military as a humanitarian zone. Following the strike, a nearby Red Cross field hospital received 22 bodies and 45 injured, the ICRC said. The Gaza Ministry of Health said that 25 people were killed and 50 wounded in the attack. The Israeli military said the incident was under review but initial inquiries found “no indication” it was behind the strike in Mawasi.

The Israeli military said its initial inquiry showed “no indication” of a strike within the safer zone. Gazan authorities said it was an Israeli military strike. The Red Cross statement did not say who was responsible, but described “heavy-caliber projectiles,” suggesting the kinds of weapons used by Israel, not Hamas. A few months ago, President Biden seemed so fed up as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel ignored his calls for restraint in Gaza that he finally sounded tough. In March, Biden was asked if his calls for Israel not to invade the southern Gaza city of Rafah marked a “red line,” meaning that an invasion would lead to serious consequences. “It is a red line,” Biden said, “but I’m never gonna leave Israel.”What that added up to wasn’t clear, perhaps not even to Biden. But as someone who generally admires Biden’s foreign policy, I wanted to think that the president meant that an Israeli invasion of Rafah would lead to a suspension of transfers of offensive weapons, but no interruption of defensive weapons such as protections against incoming missiles. Then in April, Biden called Netanyahu and seemed again to draw a line that was at least pink.

How the vodka soda became 'gay water'
  + stars: | 2024-06-22 | by ( Alex Harring | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +11 min
The combination of soda water and vodka has long been a fixture of boozy LGBTQ+ life, particularly among gay men. One of those came from Houston-based lawyer Jeff Watters, who called the vodka soda the "gay water" of the nighttime in a post on X. Retail is also central to the business for Gay Water, a startup offering canned cocktail variations of vodka soda. The former's vodka soda citrus is 100 calories per can, while Gay Water contains 80. The Gay Bar Shop, a specialty retailer, sells an 11-ounce, $49 candle that smells like a vodka soda with a lime garnish.

“The industry is evolving,” says Desmond Cawley, hotel manager at SIRO, One Za’abeel. Rebecca Cairns/CNNEven at SIRO, with all its cutting-edge tech, Cawley has observed a surge of interest in mindfulness activities like meditation. Of course, at SIRO, there’s even a high-tech alternative to this: “vibroacoustic therapy,” the sci-fi equivalent of a gong bath. Enacted to support small businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, the employee retention credit, or ERC, is worth thousands of dollars per eligible employee. However, the agency stopped processing new filings in September amid a surge of "questionable claims," the IRS said in a news release.
