How Navy boot camp instructors are trained
  + stars: | 2024-03-01 | by ( Jake Gabbard | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: 1 min
Recruit division commanders, known as RDCs, are the drill sergeants of the United States Navy. Before they train Navy recruits at boot camp, future RDCs must graduate from Continuation School, or C School, at Naval Station Great Lakes near Waukegan, Illinois, about 40 miles north of Chicago. Business Insider spent four days at RDC C School to see how recruit division commanders are trained to instruct the next generation of sailors. This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.

It forecast an adjusted core loss of 30 million to 40 million Swiss francs ($33.4 million to $44.5 million) in 2023, compared to the previous range of 20-40 million. DocMorris also cut its 2023 external revenue outlook, expecting a high single-digit percentage decline in local currency, from a previously expected mid-single-digit drop. Its external revenue fell by 5.8% to 256 million Swiss francs in the third quarter, below the 262 million francs expected by analysts polled by the company. Redcare Pharmacy (RDC.DE) earlier in October said its third quarter sales rose by two thirds, aided by double-digit growth in sales of non-prescription products. But analysts said DocMorris had weighed on the wider sector and Redcare Pharmacy's shares fell around 3% on Thursday.

REUTERS/Eloisa Lopez/File PhotoMANILA, March 14 (Reuters) - Philippine authorities have increased efforts to contain an oil spill from a sunken fuel tanker that has affected coastal towns and was still spreading, the environment ministry said on Tuesday, as the country grapples with cleanup challenges. The vessel was carrying about 800,000 litres (211,338 gallons) of industrial fuel oil when it sank, according to the coast guard. Resorts in Oriental Mindoro, also known for world-class beaches and dive spots, have already been reeling from the impact of the oil spill, as tourists cancel reservations during what is supposed to be peak season. They also raised concerns about whether the tanker owner could file insurance claims despite questions about the ship's permit to operate.

A remotely operated autonomous vehicle would be deployed to help determine the exact location of the tanker, it said. Authorities want to know how much oil is inside and how to pump the remainder out and stop any leaks, experts said. The tanker's owner has contracted local agencies, Harbor Star Shipping Services and Malayan Towage and Salvage Corp., for the cleanup. If sea conditions are bad, it is also unsafe for our contractors to work," Rodrigo Bella, vice president of Harbor Star, told the media briefing.
A Glencore lawyer on Tuesday said the company now expects to pay as much as $1.5 billion in total penalties, up from the $1.2 billion it initially agreed to pay last year. Glencore faced several restitution claims after agreeing to its settlement last year, including from Petróleos Mexicanos SA de CV, or Pemex, Mexico’s state-owned oil company. The negotiated monetary penalty paid by the Glencore subsidiary is lower than what is called for under federal sentencing guidelines, a reflection of Glencore’s cooperation, Judge Schofield said at Tuesday’s sentencing. Glencore gave prosecutors more than a million documents, including from overseas, where prosecutors lack subpoena power, the judge said. The company also agreed to overhaul its compliance program and will be under an independent monitorship for three years, she said.
A company founded by a South African husband and wife to provide medical care for Congolese miners asked a federal judge in Manhattan for $50 million in restitution for the harm it said it suffered from a bribery scheme involving Glencore PLC. Glencore, an Anglo-Swiss commodities company, in May agreed to pay about $1.2 billion to resolve long-running investigations by U.S., U.K. and Brazilian authorities into bribery and market-manipulation misconduct. After a dispute over the appointment of a manager to oversee those contracts, Kamoto terminated the agreements, according to Crusader Health. The bribe, which was described in settlement documents between Glencore and the U.S. government, ultimately forced Crusader Health to shut down, the company said.
