India's startup ecosystem is poised for promising growth as the country works toward boosting economic growth and entrepreneurship — but more jobs are needed to combat high levels of unemployment. India's unemployment rate rose to 8.1% in April compared to 7.4% the previous month, according to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy. The number of startups in India jumped 37% in April compared to a year ago, leading to a 14% increase in the number of jobs from startups, latest employment trends data from Foundit showed. The report highlighted that the IT services sector had that most job opportunities, and more than 50% of new startup jobs were catered toward fresh university graduates. While India's push to be self-sufficient in manufacturing and IT is giving young people more career routes and choices, more needs to be done to combat India's high youth unemployment, Garisa said.

I've since deleted about a third of the apps I used to have on my phone, as I felt I wasn't even using them.

However, a new study finds regular use of fish oil supplements may increase, not reduce, the risk of first-time stroke and atrial fibrillation among people in good cardiovascular health. Nearly one-third of those people, who were followed for an average of 12 years, said they regularly used fish oil supplements. Over-the-counter fish oil suffers from a lack of purity and consistency, as well as the potential contaminants and heavy metals such as mercury that come with fish, Freeman said. “In addition, studies over the last 10 years have not been very positive for over-the-counter fish oil,” he added. “Fish oil was either having no benefit or in some cases it may harm, such as with stroke and AFib.

Appen, the embattled artificial intelligence firm that once helped train AI models for tech giants including Microsoft , Nvidia and Google , has lost its executives in charge of revenue and marketing. The departures follow Alphabet 's announcement in January that it was cutting all contractual ties with Appen, which once helped train Google's chatbot and other AI products. Two weeks after that decision, Appen CEO Armughan Ahmad left after just 12 months on the job. After a "strategic review process," Alphabet notified Appen in January of the termination, which went into effect March 19, according to a filing from Appen. Companies are spending far more on processors from Nvidia and less on external AI training from companies like Appen.

User posts and comments on Facebook or Instagram are not necessarily the type of high-quality training data that generative AI chatbots and search tools need to generate quality outputs. Previously, Zuckerberg said he did not expect the generative AI boom. The US Copyright Office is considering new rules to cover generative AI. Nvidia's Hopper chips include the H100, which was announced in 2022 and faced severe supply shortages last year as the AI gold rush intensified. Tuesday's AWS news represents a pushout in demand for Nvidia chips, not a loss of it. That would be the so-called "digestion" phase for AI chips that Wall Street has been speculating about since last year. If anything, AWS deciding to wait for the more-powerful Blackwell chips could mean the digestion phase is further out on the horizon than initially thought. Unlike last year, when Nvidia's chips were in such short supply, there are now rival chips out there, such as AMD's MI300X, which is angling for a corner of the inferencing market .

Investors hunting for income ought to look to small-cap stocks for a few high-quality dividend payers, according to Bank of America. There are names within it that offer quality dividend yields, according to Jill Carey Hall, equity strategist at Bank of America, in a Monday research report. Further, once the Federal Reserve begins cutting rates, yields paid on cash will fall, and that will make these dividend payers even more attractive for income. Finally, Bank of America added Essential Properties Realty Trust to its list of buy-rated dividend payers. The stock has a dividend yield of 4.2%, and shares are up 7.5% in 2024.

Long-expected layoffs are hitting Pixar Animation Studios on Tuesday. Pixar will lay off about 175 employees, or around 14% of the studio's workforce, a spokesperson for parent company Walt Disney told CNBC. Initially, it was reported that 20% of the animation studio's employees would be laid off. When theaters closed during the pandemic, Disney sought to pad the company's fledgling streaming service Disney+ with content, stretching its creative teams thin and sending theatrical movies straight to digital. As a result, no Disney animated feature from Pixar or Walt Disney Animation has generated more than $480 million at the global box office since 2019.

The era of hiding out in cash is coming to an end, according to UBS. While investors have been earning yields of more than 5% on instruments like money market funds and certificates of deposit, those rates aren't expected to stick around much longer. "We believe investors should limit their overall cash balances as falling interest rates this year and beyond will diminish returns on cash," Solita Marcelli, chief investment officer Americas for UBS Global Wealth Management, wrote in a note Monday. Investors flooded into money market funds as the Federal Reserve began raising interest rates in 2022. UBS also moved out on the curve on TIPS earlier this month after initially buying 5-year inflation-protected securities in August.

One problem: Disney had weakened the Pixar brand by using its films to build the Disney+ streaming service. Starting in late 2020, when many multiplexes were still closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, Disney debuted three Pixar films in a row (“Soul,” “Turning Red” and “Luca”) online, bypassing theaters altogether. At the time — around December 2020 — Disney was pouring money into the streaming service in a wild and ultimately unsuccessful effort to attract up to 260 million subscribers worldwide. As part of the retrenchment at Pixar, “Elio,” a movie about an 11-year-old boy who is inadvertently beamed into space, was delayed. Disney pushed it to June 2025.

Last week, Google announced plans to change its search results page to prioritize a feature called "AI Overview," which uses AI to summarize information at the top of a search results page. Google said on Tuesday there will be ads within AI Overview and that they will be relevant to both the query and the information. The ads include virtual try-on options, a technology Google rolled out last year with select retailers. Executives said at the time of the report last month that they saw increased customer conversions from ad clients using generative AI tools in its "Performance Max." The company said it is giving advertisers more image editing tools and said Google AI will generate more visual options and "context" for their ads.

Luxury winemakers producing some of the most expensive wine in the world will pay up to $50,000 for a single barrel to age their wine. But not just any barrel — a foudre. A foudre is a massive wooden vat that impacts and preserves the overall taste of the wine. Making a foudre starts with French oak, a tightly grained wood that adds unique flavoring to the wine. The wood is so precious — and so expensive — that the French government heavily regulates its sales through annual auctions of oak forest plots.
