Fisker CEO Henrik Fisker introduces the all-electric off-road Ocean called the Force E during its inaugural "Product Vision Day" in Huntington Beach, California, on August 3, 2023. U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker Fisker filed for bankruptcy protection late on Monday, looking to sell its assets and restructure its debt, after succumbing to rapid cash burn to deliver its "Ocean" SUVs in the United States and Europe. "Like other companies in the electric vehicle industry, we have faced various market and macroeconomic headwinds that have impacted our ability to operate efficiently," Fisker said in a statement early on Tuesday. The company's operating unit, Fisker Group Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, listing estimated assets of $500 million to $1 billion and liabilities of $100 million to $500 million. Fisker made over 10,000 vehicles in 2023, less than a quarter of its forecast, but delivered only about 4,700.

Experts say rental properties, vacation homes and homes where the owners are deceased can be targets of home title theft. Here are some ways to protect yourself:What is home title fraud? Trump’s out of luck: No immunityThe simplest outcome would be for the Supreme Court to rule that former presidents are not entitled to immunity from criminal prosecution. Nixon and the ‘outer perimeter’ of powerBut the justices could reach more broadly by granting some degree of immunity for “official” actions. That official-versus-private debate emerged as a key component of Trump’s immunity battle and will be closely scrutinized once the opinion lands. In terms of timing, a lot would depend on the direction the Supreme Court gives Chutkan in its opinion. It could also raise the possibility of further pre-trial legal wrangling, unless the Supreme Court explicitly ruled out appeals of those decisions.

Adobe is having a terrible month

On Monday, the Department of Justice sued, saying Adobe violated consumer protection laws by hiding expensive fees and making it difficult to cancel subscriptions. Regulators said in the complaint that Adobe entices people to "enroll in its default, most lucrative subscription plan without clearly disclosing important plan terms." Earlier this month, the tech giant asked users to sign new terms with language that some thought implied that their content could be reproduced, displayed, or modified by Adobe — a big concern since Adobe is pushing hard into generative AI. AdvertisementThe news even frustrated Adobe employees, who complained internally about the company's poor communication, Business Insider reported last week. "Pretending that this wasn't intentional only makes Adobe and its employees look even more pathetic," said Sasha Yanshin on X. Yanshin said that he canceled his Adobe subscription after many years as a customer.

WASHINGTON — Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are scrambling to address the boom in deepfake AI pornographic images, which have targeted everyone from celebrities to high school students. Now, a new bill will seek to hold social media companies accountable for policing and removing deepfake porn images published on their sites. The measure would criminalize publishing or threatening to publish deepfake porn. Additionally, the sites would also have to make a reasonable effort to remove any other copies of the images, including ones shared in private groups. They will be joined in the Capitol by victims of deepfake porn, including high school students.

The Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved Merck 's new vaccine designed to protect adults from a bacteria known as pneumococcus that can cause serious illnesses and a lung infection called pneumonia, the drugmaker said. It's the first pneumococcal conjugate vaccine designed specifically for adults and aims to provide broader protection than the available shots on the market, according to the drugmaker. Healthy adults can suffer from pneumococcal disease. Around 150,000 U.S. adults are hospitalized with pneumococcal pneumonia each year, Platt said. Death from the more serious form of the disease is highest among adults 50 and above, Merck said in a release in December.

Marian is among a group of mixed-race children whose mothers say they were conceived after rape by British soldiers training in Kenya. Mixed-race children continue to be born in the remote villages where the British Army trains its soldiers in Kenya. One of the more contentious accusations against British soldiers involves the case of Agnes Wanjiru. Allegations of rape and other crimes, including murder, by British soldiers deployed there date back to the 1950s. The UK investigators did not conduct DNA tests on any of the 69 mixed-race children alleged to have been born from rape by British soldiers.

The outcome is predictable: the most conservative Supreme Court in decades eroded another legal protection of workers’ right to organize. In response, the labor movement must re-evaluate the source of our power; the law will not save us. U.S. labor law contains no penalties for firing workers in retaliation for organizing — only remedies. to obtain 10(j) injunctions, which are emergency legal measures intended to stop the harm that extreme union-busting actions cause to organizing campaigns, the Supreme Court underestimates the damage that retaliatory firings cause. The Supreme Court’s action exposes how little relief workers can expect to receive moving forward.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the liquidation of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones′ personal assets and was still deciding on his company's separate bankruptcy case. Judge Christopher Lopez approved converting Jones' proposed personal bankruptcy reorganization to a liquidation. He was still set to rule on whether Jones' company, Austin, Texas-based Free Speech Systems, also should be liquidated. It wasn't immediately clear what will happen to Free Speech Systems, which is Infowars' parent company. If Free Speech Systems' case is dismissed, the company could return to the same position it was in after the $1.5 billion was awarded in the lawsuits.

CNN —A Texas bankruptcy court judge has approved the liquidation of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ personal assets, setting the stage for repayment to the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims. Last week, Jones agreed to convert his personal bankruptcy into a Chapter 7 liquidation. The seismic move paves the way for Jones to no longer own Infowars, the influential conspiracy empire he founded in the late 1990s. Texas Judge Christopher Lopez will also on Friday consider liquidating Jones’ company Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Infowars, to pay the judgments to the Sandy Hook families. Jones acknowledged Friday that his most famous media property is likely to go away as part of his ongoing bankruptcy case.

New York CNN —Alex Jones’ conspiracy empire is on the brink. If the judge rules in favor of Sandy Hook families, Infowars would be shuttered. In such a scenario, a court-appointed trustee would be tasked with securing the assets and then selling off Jones’ media empire, including the website, studio space, and broadcasting equipment. “Infowars would no longer exist,” Christopher Mattei, an attorney who represents some of the Sandy Hook families, explained this week to CNN’s Hadas Gold. But the attorneys representing Sandy Hook families expect that the most likely scenario is Jones’ Infowars empire will be sold off, piece by piece, with the proceeds going to their clients.
