Americans for Prosperity Action, a super PAC affiliated with the Koch network of political advocacy groups, is launching a slate of new ads backing Republicans across multiple Senate battleground races, spending $8.75 million on a campaign focused largely on issues like the economy, inflation, and immigration. With party control of both chambers of Congress up for grabs in November, the group has spent about $60 million on election advertising already in 2024, according to FEC filings. Americans for Prosperity Action backed Nikki Haley for president in 2023 but has focused its efforts since then on promoting conservative down-ballot candidates through digital advertising, door-knocking, phone-banking and election mailers. The group is not investing in efforts to promote Donald Trump this fall. It has contacted more than 9 million voters about congressional races nationwide this election cycle.

Polls in the states she is expected to visit this week, including Colorado, Minnesota, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia, show her lagging far behind Mr. Trump. Hours before the last ballots were cast in South Carolina, Ms. Haley appeared to suggest a winding down could be in sight. CNN —The influential network associated with billionaire Charles Koch will no longer throw its money behind former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the Republican presidential primary and will instead focus on key Senate and House races, the group announced in an email to staff obtained by CNN. Americans for Prosperity Action’s endorsement in November was a significant boost for Haley as she sought to become the leading alternative to former President Donald Trump in the GOP primary. But while the race has come down to Haley and Trump, the former president remains the dominant front-runner after a strong victory in Haley’s home state on Saturday. “AFP is a great organization and ally in the fight for freedom and conservative government.

Nikki Haley hosts a rally in Conway as part of her swing in the Palmetto State leading up to the State's primary, in Conway SC, United States on January 28, 2024. During a speech billed as a "state of the race" update, Haley said she intends to stay in the 2024 election, regardless of her performance in the upcoming South Carolina Republican primary. The spokesperson also pointed to several instances where Trump's attacks on Haley led to millions of fundraising dollars. For example, Haley raised $1 million in 48 hours after Trump attacked Haley's husband's military service. That threat drove $2 million in contributions over 48 hours to the Haley campaign, according to a Haley spokesperson.

They also suggested that they would be focusing intensely on Senate and House races, especially if Mr. Trump became the nominee.

Former South Carolina Gov. The Biden campaign has long been preparing for Trump to win the nomination, but it is acutely aware of polling reflecting Haley’s strength over Biden in a one-on-one matchup. And behind closed doors, the Biden campaign is cheering Haley’s decision to stay in the race as they monitor Trump lashing out at the former South Carolina governor. It has been welcome news for the president’s reelection team to see Haley prolong the Republican contest and force the Trump campaign to use its resources and time to attack her. “Go forth and prosper,” one Biden campaign official said, describing the team’s delight in seeing the Trump-Haley feud continue.

The battle to win the Republican Iowa caucus is the most expensive on record, with over $120 million spent on ads by the campaigns and their affiliated political action committees in the Hawkeye State, according to data provided to CNBC by AdImpact. Around $84 million of the $120 million total ad buys came from campaigns and allies of the top three candidates, Trump, Haley and Florida. DeSantis' campaign and two outside allies have spent a combined $30 million on TV, digital, and radio ads in Iowa. One of the two DeSantis super PACs, Never Back Down, has knocked on over 915,000 doors in the Iowa, according to the organization. Here are five things to watch in the Iowa caucuses:Will Trump top 50%? The Iowa caucuses have a history of paring down both parties’ fields of presidential contenders. Nikki Haley needs more than Koch cash to beat Trump

AFP Action senior adviser Emily Seidel said in a briefing document explaining the decision that Haley was best positioned to beat Trump in the primary. What Haley could gain from the endorsementHaley has one thing every successful candidate needs as first voting nears – a rising political trajectory. And Tuesday’s developments complicated his campaign’s efforts to convince big corporate donors that he is the best hope to defeat Trump. As well as muscle in the campaign advertising wars, its endorsement could bring major donors to Haley’s campaign. Even when it comes to a candidate who is as disdainful of democracy as Trump is, voters decide.

Nikki Haley is instructive. But nowhere does it talk in depth about policy or what the Koch brothers’ organization represents within the Republican coalition. What makes Haley interesting in this race is not, in fact, her position in the polls but her position in the party. Haley was, after all, Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, an interesting position for someone who so sharply diverges from Trump’s ostensibly non-interventionist foreign policy. Or maybe it’s Haley, the standard-bearer for a more inclusive Republican Party, defined by her identities as a woman and Indian-American.
