Andrew Crispo, a once high-flying art gallerist in Manhattan brought low by a long series of tabloid-worthy scandals, including tax evasion, extortion and implication in the grisly 1985 murder of a Norwegian art student, died on Feb. 8 in Brooklyn. Mr. Crispo left no immediate survivors, and word of his death emerged only recently. I was surprised to be on the applauding side, having been in the arson-curious portion of the audience after Ms. Fennell’s previous outing as writer-director, the 2020 feminist revenge saga “Promising Young Woman,” a rookie effort that won her the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Like that film, “Saltburn” is a black comedy with a twist-filled script, this time set among the swells at Ms. Fennell’s alma mater, the University of Oxford, and at the country estate that gives the film its title.

CNN —In hindsight, Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut “A Star is Born” served as the commercial tune-up that paved the way for “Maestro,” as both films deal with the price of art as well as loving an artist. Before getting to the movie itself, a word about the controversy it triggered over the prosthetic nose that Cooper donned to better resemble his Jewish character. Carey Mulligan and Bradley Cooper in "Maestro," which Cooper also directed. Still, watching Cooper and Mulligan portray their characters across decades, it’s hard not to be impressed, while nurturing a greater appreciation for why Cooper found Bernstein’s contributions and complications deserving of such a tribute.
