Almost 500 leading scientists and more than 2,000 civil society organizations worldwide are calling for a solar geoengineering non-use agreement. Both African ministers and the European Parliament have called for such a mechanism, reflecting a growing consensus against these dangerous experiments. The incomplete artifact is on display in the High Hall exhibition at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk, England. A researcher excavates part of the Bromeswell bucket from the trench at Sutton Hoo. Based on the forms of Greek letters at the top of the artifact, researchers think the vessel was already 100 years old when it arrived at Sutton Hoo, Howarth said. Future research at Sutton Hoo could reveal the broader history of the site and what kept drawing people to inhabit it over time, Howarth said. The aim of this project is to look at the landscape and think about who was inhabiting it and how that fits into the wider Sutton Hoo story.”

LAS VEGAS — DEF CON, the world’s largest hacker conference, is trying to put its legions of experts to work by creating a volunteer army to help protect America’s vulnerable water systems and schools. It also aims to help the broader public access the cybersecurity research the hackers produce during the conference each year. “So how do we best help them help other people?”The project has two main elements. The second is connecting hackers with places that are in desperate need of cybersecurity help, starting with water and wastewater facilities and schools. In Kibaha, Tanzania, just west of the capital Dar es Salaam, a group of pioneering architects are set to build a new village with “earth printing” at its heart. A rendering of the community center for Hope Village, which Hassell says is expected to begin construction in 2025. Hope Village is more ambitious, according to Mark Loughnan, principal and head of design at Hassell. For Dr. Consola Elia, who will oversee the children’s home at Hope Village, the project is “the reality of a dream that I’ve had for over 20 years,” she said in a statement. Work on the masterplan has begun, with housing already underway and construction of the community center expected to begin in early 2025.
