(Reuters) - The United States recorded its 12th million COVID-19 case on Saturday, even as millions of Americans were expected to travel for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, ignoring warnings from health officials about furthering the spread of the infectious disease. Reuters data shows the pace of new U.S. infections has quickened, with nearly one million more cases recorded in just the last 6 days before the latest record. This compares with the 8 days it took to get from 10 million cases to 11 million, and the 10 days it took to get from 9 million to 10 million. Friday marked another milestone in the United States as the highest number of new COVID-19 cases was reported - 196,815 infections in a day. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has issued a “strong recommendation” to Americans to refrain from all kinds of travel over Thanksgiving.

The United States reported a record one-day spike of 126,400 new cases of the coronavirus as medical experts warn that the outbreak is worsening across the country and could lead to a devastating winter. In El Paso, Texas, County Judge Ricardo Samaniego ordered the closure of all nonessential businesses as hospitals there were beginning to get overwhelmed by the rise in Covid-19 patients. Remote health systems in these areas might find themselves more easily overwhelmed by an influx of Covid-19 patients than medical centers in big cities, Peterson said. She added that while doctors have learned a lot about how to effectively treat Covid-19 patients, that doesn't mean every doctor is equipped to do so. Not to mention, doctors and nurses are increasingly exhausted by the relentless surge of new Covid-19 patients, she added.

Joe Biden's transition team will have several million dollars to work with as it puts together the foundation of a potential Biden administration, including Cabinet members. Biden's transition team, according to people briefed on the matter, is on track to far exceed its original fundraising goal of at least $7 million. The transition team is responsible for helping choose and confirm the president-elect's nominees to leadership positions within the government, such as the secretary of Treasury and the attorney general. The transition team has been raising money since late summer. It could dissuade Biden's team from vetting and selecting progressive leaders for key roles.

The Quiet Architect of Biden’s Plan to Rescue the Economy

WASHINGTON — In recent months Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s campaign developed a virtual road show to reassure executives, investment fund managers and financiers who were nervous that the Democratic candidate’s plans to increase taxes could hurt the American economic recovery. Penny Pritzker, the billionaire former Commerce secretary under President Barack Obama, would lead off with an overview of Mr. Biden’s plans. But the worried capitalists always wanted details, and for that, Ms. Pritzker would turn over the video calls to the little-known fulcrum of the Biden campaigns economic policymaking: a 43-year-old tax and budget specialist named Ben Harris. Mr. Harris, an economist who is relatively anonymous even to other economists, has taken a starring role in both efforts. He has two other jobs but works up to 50 hours a week for Mr. Biden, unpaid.

More than 800 individuals or couples raised at least $100,000 each for Joe Biden’s presidential bid, according to a list released by the Democratic nominee’s campaign Saturday. In all, the campaign released the names of 817 individuals or couples who raised at least $100,000 for the campaign. President Trump has never released a similar list of bundlers in his five years as a presidential candidate. Still, Mr. Biden's last-minute release of the names of his top money-raisers breaks from a long track record of Democratic presidential candidates routinely providing updates to the public during the election cycle. His campaign said at the time that it would provide regular updates, but Saturday’s release — three days before Election Day — was the first such update.

White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday that the United States is in a "bad position" as coronavirus cases and hospitalizations surge in many parts of the nation. After Memorial Day, new cases began to climb again, surging to about 70,000 cases a day in July before plateauing at around about 40,000 in September. "We should have been way down in baseline and daily cases, and we're not," he said. Fauci's comments came after the U.S. reported its third consecutive record in average daily Covid-19 cases. Fifteen states hit record highs in hospitalizations.
