The Democratic president's interview was voluntary and conducted over two days, concluding on Monday, Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House counsel's office, said in a statement. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in January named Hur as special counsel to probe the improper storage of classified documents at Biden's Delaware home and a think tank office set up for Biden after his 2009-2017 vice presidency. The White House declined to comment further, referring questions to the Justice Department. A wider-ranging inquiry into handling of classified documents has also been directed at Biden's main Republican potential rival for the 2024 elections, former President Donald Trump, who has been indicted in his case.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday will deliver remarks on the contract negotiations between the United Auto Workers (UAW) and the Detroit Three automakers, the White House said. The White House did not specify a time for his remarks, which comes as the UAW overnight launched a strike at three factories owned by General Motors, Ford and Chrysler owner Stellantis. On Wednesday, a White House economic adviser said the president wanted both sides to work around the clock to avoid a strike, which is the most ambitious U.S. industrial labor action in decades. The UAW strike at three factories owned by General Motors, Ford and Chrysler-owner Stellantis kicked off the most ambitious U.S. industrial labor action in decades. "No one wants a strike, but I respect workers' right to use their options under the collective bargaining" system, Biden said. Labor unions like the UAW - which represents 146,000 workers - are key to Biden's game plan for winning reelection in 2024. "The auto workers are being sold down the river by their leadership," Trump said in the interview with NBC's Meet the Press. Under Trump, auto companies "would likely have gone bankrupt," the Biden campaign said in a statement.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden told top American rabbis on Thursday that he felt antisemitism has "risen to record levels" and was a big challenge for the entire country, while also taking a dig at Republican former President Donald Trump over the issue. "Antisemitism has risen to record levels," Biden said in a call with U.S. rabbis to commemorate the Jewish High Holidays. The rally followed months of protests over the city's plan to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. More than 3,600 antisemitic incidents were recorded in the United States in 2022, more than in any year since ADL began tracking the issue in 1979.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 14 (Reuters) - The United States is divided over the Republican impeachment probe of Democratic President Joe Biden, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on Thursday, with a plurality of Americans supporting the idea. Some 41% of respondents said they supported the idea of Congress opening an impeachment investigation into Biden related to allegations involving his son Hunter Biden, while 35% were opposed and 24% said they were not sure. Republicans say they have found a "culture of corruption" around the business activities of Biden's son Hunter Biden that justifies an investigation. Biden's son Hunter pursued a wide range of foreign business ventures and has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. Previous polls have found that many Americans believe Hunter Biden has received special treatment.
