As Gatorade approaches its 60th birthday, the brand is staying spry, branching out into new categories from unflavored water to energy drink mixes. It accounted for 63.5% of the U.S. sports drink market in 2023, according to Euromonitor International data. Gatorade President Mike Del Pozzo told CNBC that the competition is good for the category overall – and shows his brand's own strength. Coca-Cola raised its full-year revenue forecast Tuesday after a stronger-than-expected third quarter. That's up from the 8% to 9% guidance Coke announced at the end of the second quarter. Coffee sales saw the strongest growth, as demand grew in the United Kingdom and China. Water sales were up 1%, while tea sales fell 1% on declining demand in Turkey and Latin America. The PepsiCo-owned brand, best known for its fruit-flavored sports drinks like Fierce Grape or Frost Glacier Cherry, is adding Gatorade Water. It’s a major bet that the brand can tap into the growing “functional water” category (i.e. Specifically, alkaline water is a water that has a higher pH level than tap water. Gatorade Water has pH levels of 7 and higher. Other popular brands include Nestle-owned Essentia and two other PepsiCo-owned brands including LIFEWTR and Propel, a flavored water, that the company sees Gatorade Water being “complementary” to.

Coca-Cola on Wednesday raised its full-year outlook after reporting earnings and revenue that topped estimates. For 2023, Coke now expects comparable earnings per share growth of 5% to 6%, up from its prior forecast of a 4% to 5% rise. The National Basketball Association suspended Ja Morant for 25 games after the Memphis Grizzlies star brandished a gun on a live video for the second time, the league said Friday.
