Tight inventory, combined with pent-up demand, kept prices in an uptrend last year despite 23-year-high mortgage rates, according to Selma Hepp, CoreLogic's chief economist. AdvertisementCooling mortgage rates and newly built homes will help bring more houses on the market but won't create enough inventory to outpace demand, wrote Hepp. She isn't expecting much change to mortgage rates but said that they will likely be slightly higher from January to February, in line with historical trends that precede the busy spring sales season. If inflation remains tamed and trending downward, and the Federal Reserve begins cutting rates as a response, declining mortgage rates would follow, she added in an email to Business Insider. Lori Vallow Daybell, who is serving consecutive life sentences in Idaho for murdering two of her children after being inspired by what prosecutors called her “doomsday” beliefs, has been extradited to Arizona to face charges of conspiracy to commit murder in two other cases. Sheriff’s deputies from Maricopa County, Ariz., accompanied Ms. Vallow Daybell, 50, on the 18-hour drive from prison in Pocatello, Idaho, to the Estrella Jail in Phoenix, where she was booked late on Wednesday night, the Maricopa County sheriff, Paul Penzone, said at a news conference. The Bureau of Land Management is ending the practice of using 'cyanide bombs' to kill species. AdvertisementThe US Bureau of Land Management says it will no longer use spring-loaded traps full of cyanide on its land — a small win for wildlife activists and advocates concerned with pet and human safety. AdvertisementThe M-44 ejector devices that critics call "cyanide bombs" have unintentionally killed thousands of pets and non-predator wildlife, including endangered species, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services. Other federal agencies — including the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service — already prohibit the devices. Between 2000-16, Wildlife Services reported 246,985 animals killed by M-44s, including at least 1,182 dogs.

And 30% say Biden did nothing wrong, according to the poll. House Republicans have launched an impeachment inquiry into Biden, seeking to tie the president to the foreign business dealings of his 53-year-old son. Republicans have been investigating Hunter Biden for years, since his father was vice president. About an additional third in each party say they think Biden at least did something unethical. The same 2019 AP-NORC poll found that 69% of Americans said it was inappropriate for Hunter Biden to serve on the board of a Ukrainian energy company while Joe Biden was vice president.

Feb 18 (Reuters) - Double Olympic champion Ryan Crouser broke his own shot put world record when he threw for 23.38 metres while competing during an indoor event in Pocatello, Idaho, on Saturday, according to World Athletics. The 30-year-old American's effort in the first round of competition at the Simplot Games beat both the outdoor record of 23.37m he set in 2021 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene and the indoor mark of 22.82m he achieved earlier that year. The reigning world champion has now surpassed the 23m mark in seven competitions during his career, a barrier that only three other athletes have ever bettered, according to a report on the World Athletics website.
