LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Friday described American XL Bully dogs as a “danger to our communities” and announced plans to ban the breed following a public outcry after a series of recent attacks. Sunak said he has asked government ministers to bring together police and canine experts to legally define the characteristics of the American XL Bully, which is not recognized as a breed by groups such as the Kennel Club in Britain or the American Kennel Club in the United States. “The American XL Bully dog is a danger to our communities, particularly our children,’’ Sunak said. Some campaigners have called for the American XL Bully, which was originally bred from the American pit bull terrier, to be added to the list because they believe dangerous characteristics have been bred into the animals. The XL Bully is not recognized as a breed by the U.K.’s Kennel Club, which has argued that no breed of dog is inherently dangerous.

According to campaign group Bully Watch, which advocates for a ban on selling and breeding large XL bully dogs, the breed was responsible for more than half of all fatal dog attacks in Britain last year. XL bully dogs were originally bred from American pit bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers and first appeared in the UK "around 2014 or 2015", with the numbers growing rapidly in recent years, the campaign group said. Sunak has asked the police and experts to define XL bully dogs, a first step he said before he hopes they can be banned by the end of the year.

Poliția italiană a descoperit și anihilat o rețea de trafic de câini în care erau implicate 40 de persoane, medici veterinari dar și crescători. Indivizii tăiau urechile și coada cățeilor pentru a-i face mai „fioroși” și mai „atrăgători” pentru cumpărătorii străini, scrie The Guardian, citează digi24.ro. Potrivit anchetei, între 2017 și 2019, indivizii au tăiat urechile și cozile a 52 de câini din rasa Pit Bull Terrier și din rasele Corsican și Dog argentinian. Medicii veterinari câștigau până la 200 de euro pentru fiecare câine căruia îi tăiau urechile sau coada.
