Last week, Google announced plans to change its search results page to prioritize a feature called "AI Overview," which uses AI to summarize information at the top of a search results page. Google said on Tuesday there will be ads within AI Overview and that they will be relevant to both the query and the information. The ads include virtual try-on options, a technology Google rolled out last year with select retailers. Executives said at the time of the report last month that they saw increased customer conversions from ad clients using generative AI tools in its "Performance Max." The company said it is giving advertisers more image editing tools and said Google AI will generate more visual options and "context" for their ads.

CNN —Nissan is postponing a push to build new electric vehicles at its Canton, Mississippi, factory as sales of EVs are now growing more slowly than many industry experts had expected. EV sales in the US grew 2.6 % in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to Kelley Blue Book. First quarter EV sales last year had outpaced 2022’s by a stunning 46.4%. Nissan still plans to offer a total of 19 EV models globally by 2030, a spokesperson said. Nissan previously announced it would invest $500 million in the factory to prepare it build the new electric vehicles.

But a visitor to the Death Valley National Park in California brought the 113-year-old structure down on April 19 when it was used in an effort to pull a pickup truck out of the mud, prompting the National Park Service to investigate who was responsible for the damage. The service’s request for information from the public elicited dozens of calls and messages, a video uploaded to YouTube, and finally a confession. A park visitor said that the damage “was done during a time of desperation while being deeply stuck in mud” and had taken full responsibility, according to a Park Service update provided on Thursday.

CNN —Three people died after an Amtrak train struck a pickup truck in western New York north of Buffalo, fire officials said Saturday. All of the truck’s passengers were pronounced dead at the scene Friday night in North Tonawanda, the city’s fire chief told CNN in a phone call. There were no reported injuries to the 21 passengers and crew members on the train, Amtrak said. Amtrak train 281 was traveling north from New York to Niagara Falls when it hit the vehicle on the track, Amtrak said in a statement. At least eight people were killed and dozens of others were injured on Tuesday after a bus carrying migrant farm workers collided with a pickup truck in Central Florida, the local authorities said. The bus was carrying 53 migrant workers when it sideswiped a pickup truck, drove through a fence and overturned in unincorporated Marion County, west of Ocala, Fla., according to a spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident. CNN —The driver of the pickup truck involved in a Tuesday crash that killed eight people and left more than 40 injured in north-central Florida has been arrested and charged with eight counts of DUI manslaughter, according to a news release from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. The 2010 International Bus carrying “approximately 53 farm workers” and a 2001 Ford Ranger sideswiped each other around 6:35 a.m., about 15 miles west of Ocala, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement. The Ford, “for unknown reasons, traveled toward the center line” before the vehicles struck each other, Lt. Patrick Riordan of the Florida Highway Patrol said at a news conference at the scene. The bus then left the roadway, went through a fence and overturned. There’s no reason for me to be involved with these individuals.

Lower pricing due to softening demand helped April electric vehicle sales at Ford more than double, even as the automaker was shifting resources away from the money-losing unit. Despite the volume increases, Ford Model e saw losses widen in Q1 to $1.32 billion on just $100 million in quarterly sales. Ford's hybrid sales in April rose almost 60% to 17,997 units. We believe a buyback would be a catalyst for Ford stock just like it has been for General Motors , which announced its repurchase plan back in November.
