CNN —American F1 driver Logan Sargeant escaped unharmed after losing control of his car during practice at the Dutch Grand Prix Saturday, as it crashed into a wall, crumpled on impact and burst into flames. The Williams Racing driver vaulted out the smoking car and walked towards the side of the track, while the rest of the session was red flagged. Sargeant’s team confirmed that he was unharmed but that they were unable to repair his car in time for him to participate in qualifying. “The team will continue to repair and build his car in preparation for race day,” Williams Racing added in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, went out in the second round and will start from 12th on the grid.

CNN —The United Nations’ top court has ordered Israel to immediately halt its controversial military operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, further increasing international pressure on Israel over its war against Hamas. Israel began a limited ground offensive in Rafah on May 7, defying calls from the international community, including the United States, not to proceed. More than a million Palestinians were taking shelter there before Israel started its operation, but the court noted that around 800,000 have since been displaced. Satellites are the next tool that will hold oil and gas companies accountable in their promise to cut methane emissions and slow global warming. This, in turn, means oil and gas companies responsible for the plumes can be notified faster and potentially take action. CNN —A haul of Ukrainian treasures sent to Europe for an exhibition nearly 10 years ago have been returned to Kyiv from the Netherlands after a lengthy legal battle. The collection of ancient artifacts was dispatched to the Netherlands from four museums in Crimea before Russia’s annexation of the region in 2014. The collection comprised 565 items, including antique sculptures, Scythian and Sarmatian jewelry, and Chinese lacquer boxes that are 2,000 years old, the museum said. “The exhibition in the Netherlands was showing the history of Ukrainian Crimea, therefore it is exclusively the people of Ukraine who should possess these treasures,” he added. Ultimately, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands ruled on June 9 of this year that the collection should be returned to Kyiv.

The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam is hosting a pop-up tattoo parlor, with tattoo artists inking replicas of Rembrandt’s work on paying visitors. Fossil-fuel interests are fighting for natural gas at the United Nations' COP27 climate summit. But natural gas is mostly methane — a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide — and it leaks. One-third of the fossil fuel lobbyists Global Witness identified are registered as part of national delegations, according to Dominic Kavakeb, a spokesperson for Global Witness. Fossil fuel influence threatens to undermine progress on one of the most powerful, immediate climate solutions: ending human methane emissions. While methane's consequences are severe, the good news is that countries and industries can quickly slow climate change by cutting methane emissions.
