Lowe's staff members were targeted via a Google ad for an employee portal claiming to be associated with the retailer. It's not a problem with Google, per se; malicious ads can also show up in queries using other search engines like Microsoft's Bing. "You see something appearing on a Google search, you kind of assume it is something valid," said Stuart Madnick, professor of information technology at MIT Sloan School of Management. Also avoid calling a telephone number listed in a sponsored ad because it could be a fake telephone number. Many privacy browsers have embedded ad blockers; consumers may still see sponsored ads, but they will see fewer of them, which minimizes the chances of malvertising.

Nancy Martiny didn’t know what she was doing when she made her first saddle. It took her almost a year of stolen afternoons — between ranching, rodeoing and raising three children in rural Idaho — to complete it. But because she did it under the guidance of a renowned saddlemaker, Dale Harwood, that first saddle turned out well. “And that gives a man the confidence that I know what I’m talking about.” The orders started rolling in. And for more than three decades, they haven’t stopped.

And I’m not leaving,” Greene told CNN of what she relayed to Comer, a Kentucky Republican. GOP Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska framed the internal debate over how to handle Greene in familial terms: “You can only do so much. The American people don’t give a sh*t,” Greene told CNN last week after her meeting with Johnson. It’s not the first time Greene has tried the unpopular move of undermining the committee process and House GOP leadership. “I don’t think that you cure one hasty ill-advised action with another,” GOP Rep. Nick LaLota of New York said of Greene’s proposals.

Just over 2% of applicants to a Houston-area guaranteed income program were accepted — a lower acceptance rate than Harvard or Yale. Starting this month, 1,928 families will receive $500 a month, no strings attached, through Uplift Harris, a guaranteed income program in the Texas county that includes Houston. A majority of participants selected live in high-poverty ZIP codes and have a household income below 200% of the federal poverty line. Some participants were selected through the county's Accessing Coordinated Care and Empowering Self Sufficiency program which helps vulnerable residents improve outcomes. The pilot has been met with opposition from politicians including Texas State Sen. Paul Bettencourt, who in January sent a letter to the state attorney general concerning whether counties can legally enact guaranteed income programs.

We dreamed of converting it into a mobile hostel where we could travel and take people with us on our adventures. But now, four years later, the bus is finished, our hostel business is thriving, and we're about to embark on our trip to Iceland this summer. Before we started to renovate the bus, Eileen was a total stranger to me and Lisa was my best friend. I knew I could count on her, but I also had mixed feelings; we were always compared as twin sisters. After renovating, we started our business togetherLisa decided to leave the group to start another project, but the three of us then had to start our hostel business aboard our newly renovated bus.

Eventually it grew, and Hachamovitch expanded and established abortion clinics across the country, from Long Island to Arizona to Texas. AdvertisementAdvocates say that independent clinics — in 2022, Bronx Abortion was one of two in a borough of about 1.4 million people — are essential to providing abortion care. But even in New York, a state that has committed to protecting and supporting abortion rights, independent clinics are at risk. According to the Abortion Care Network, "threats to these clinics are a threat to abortion access overall." But they agree on one thing: At any given moment, a small independent clinic like Bronx Abortion might be forced to shut down.

I was married in my early 20s, and my husband wanted a traditional wife. I was not a traditional wife — or tradwife — and I rarely cooked, scoffed at the idea of having children, and did as I pleased. My perspective on marriage has changed over the yearsI'm not saying I don't think women in my position can live full and gratifying lives. I now see the benefits in the dynamic between a traditional wife and husbandTo me, the dynamic between a working husband and a traditional wife might be the ultimate expression of an interdependent relationship. To be fair, I've also likely romanticized the idea of being a traditional wife.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai speaks in conversation with Emily Chang during the APEC CEO Summit at Moscone West on November 16, 2023 in San Francisco, California. In a memo Tuesday evening, Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the company’s artificial intelligence mistakes, which led to Google taking its Gemini image-generation feature offline for further testing. Google introduced the image generator earlier this month through Gemini, the company’s main group of AI models. Over the past week, users discovered historical inaccuracies that went viral online, and the company pulled the feature last week, saying it would re-launch it in the coming weeks. This has to be our approach for all our products, including our emerging AI products.”Read the full text of the memo here:

Vladimir Putin says he'd prefer if Joe Biden won the 2024 presidential race instead of Donald Trump. The Russian leader said he thinks Biden is "more experienced," and "more predictable." Putin's remarks are surprising, considering Trump's effusive praise of the Russian leader. The Russian leader offered his assessment of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump during an interview with the state-owned television channel Russia-1 on Wednesday. While Biden and Trump still have to campaign for the presidency in 2024, Putin is all but certain to secure his reelection.

By Jason Hovet(Reuters) - Slovak parliament chief Peter Pellegrini, leader of the second-biggest party in the government coalition, confirmed on Friday that he would run in a March presidential election. Pellegrini, a prime minister in 2018-2020 and former member of Fico's SMER party, has seen a shrinking poll lead against his closest contender - Ivan Korcok, who was foreign minister in a previous government led by opposition forces. A second round in the likely case that no candidate wins an outright majority is on April 6. Pellegrini leads Korcok 40.6% to 37.7% in an AKO agency poll released on Thursday. Pellegrini led the government until anti-corruption parties won a 2020 election.

The US even reminded everyone just how influential the buck is when it effectively froze Russia out of the global financial system with sanctions last year. Becoming the issuer of the global reserve currency is about trust. The US has controlled the global reserve currency for 102 years — giving it a special status in the world economy. Still, given that the country controlling the global reserve currency holds that status of an average of 94 years, history seems to indicate it's high time for a successor. Why shouldn't the financial world resemble something closer to the mosaic of cultures, politics, and nations that exists today?

The cult of Emily Oster

Emily Oster is sitting in the back of a car, checking her Garmin watch as we lurch through rush-hour traffic toward the Holland Tunnel. A self-described expert in data, Oster uses her economics training to dig into studies on things like circumcision and screen time and translate them for popular consumption. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the way Oster presents herself in her books and newsletters and the way she conducts her life. Unsurprisingly, economics informs every aspect of the way Oster sees the world. When Oster was a toddler, her mother told a Yale colleague that Oster often talked to herself before falling asleep.
