Just days after CSX announced a new rail line in response to the Port of Baltimore closure, the Baltimore-bound containers that were diverted to the Port of New York and New Jersey are back being unloaded in Baltimore. CSX started discussions last week with Ports America to see how it could effectively move the diverted cargo. The train route moving the diverted cargo includes Chicago; Kearney, New Jersey; and Baltimore. Norfolk is in discussions with Ports America to extend this service directly on-dock at their Seagirt Intermodal Container Transfer Facility. As the Port of Baltimore crisis unfolded, many major ocean carriers invoked contract clauses transferring responsibility for transportation of cargo from diverted ports to shipping clients.

Canada's largest pension fund sold a stake in a New York building for $1. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board operates a $436.9 billion fund, with a global real estate portfolio worth roughly $30.6 billion. According to the Bloomberg report, the pension isn't backing out entirely from the office real estate sector, but it's also limiting its holdings in the space. Economists at Moody's, too, expect more pain ahead for commercial real estate.

TORONTO, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will seek to challenge Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's plan to pull her province out of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), in a meeting with provincial and territorial counterparts on Friday. A nationwide pension scheme called CPP that took contributions from paychecks began in the late 1960s. CPP Investments - an entity to manage its assets - was created in 1997 by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Act. AIMCo has not been considered a vehicle for a new Alberta pension plan. If Alberta walks away with more than 22.5% of assets, CPP contributions from everywhere else in the country would have to increase, Tombe estimates.

Australia’s $2.5 trln pension stash is one to envy

Sure, mining giant BHP (BHP.AX) has its headquarters in Australia’s second-most populous city, it’s a self-anointed coffee capital and boasts top-notch restaurants. Two other factors have capital-hungry institutions knocking on super funds’ doors. This is especially true of so-called industry funds that are mutually owned and initially catered to specific sectors such as higher education employees or hospitality workers. Daniel Andrews, premier of Victoria, has earmarked industry super funds as minority investors in a state-run plan to build renewable energy plants. Recent ructions in real estate have prompted some super funds to reassess whether the risk and complexity are justified.

After the fine, the next step would be to obtain the financial holding license, which is crucial for reviving any listing plans by Ant. A second license Ant is waiting to procure is one for a personal credit reporting company. IPO PROSPECTSThe resolution of Ant's regulatory woes has revived talk of whether the company's listing could be back on the cards. Alibaba, which has a 33% stake in Ant, said on Sunday it was considering whether to participate in the buyback. Ant's major shareholders, Hangzhou Junhan Equity Investment Partnership and Hangzhou Junao Equity Investment Partnership, have voluntarily decided not to participate in the repurchase.

Bloomberg News had reported on May 25 that Bunge and Viterra were in talks to combine, without providing details on the deal's terms and timing. Acquiring Viterra would bring Bunge revenue's revenues -- $67.2 billion in 2022 -- in line with Archer-Daniels-Midland, which registered sales of nearly $102 billion last year. In early 2017, Viterra, then known as Glencore Agriculture, attempted a takeover of Bunge, which was then valued at $11 billion. In May 2017, Bunge rebuffed Glencore after the latter made an informal approach to discuss "a possible consensual business combination." Viterra expanded its business of buying and selling grain in the United States through its $1.1 billion acquisition of Gavilon last year.

BENGALURU, May 9 (Reuters) - Shares of Manforce condom maker Mankind Pharma Ltd (MNKI.NS) surged as much as 31% in debut trading on Tuesday, valuing the company at 566.43 billion rupees ($6.93 billion) in the country's biggest listing so far this year. The company, which also owns India's top at-home pregnancy testing kit Prega News, opened at 1,300 rupees, staying above that mark through the morning session and hitting its highest at 1,414 rupees. It was seeking a valuation of 432.64 billion rupees ($5.29 billion) at the upper end of a price band it set for its initial public offering last month. The strong debut will likely lift the sentiment for the IPO market overall." The company's IPO had an offer for sale of shares worth 43.26 billion rupees from existing shareholders, including its founder Ramesh Juneja, and allocated 12.98 billion rupees worth of shares to 77 anchor investors including Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Government of Singapore, Goldman Sachs and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
UK growth hinges on more than a new pension giant
  + stars: | 2023-04-19 | by ( Francesco Guerrera | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +7 min
Politicians and financiers think a consolidation of the country’s pension funds would breathe new life into its stocks, startups and infrastructure. Meanwhile, there is no doubt that UK defined-benefit pension funds, company-sponsored plans that promise a specific payment upon retirement, have moved away from UK equities. The proposals also entail creating a 100 billion pound pension fund, modelled on the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, a retirement giant with $536 billion assets under management. Overall, some 19% of these funds’ assets are in UK stocks, according to the Pensions Policy Institute. If UK assets can yield the risk-adjusted returns offered by other assets, pension funds will join in too.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has formed an internal view that due to the pending cases it won't approve NSE's application made last year for an IPO, the sources said. “Till the legal and regulatory issues are cleared there is no chance that SEBI will approve NSE's IPO plans,” said one of the sources, who is a senior regulatory official. A delayed NSE IPO will test the patience of its core shareholders - banks, insurance companies and foreign funds - who have been waiting for an exit opportunity in rising markets. The regulator's reluctance to approve NSE's IPO has not been previously reported. These include whether certain brokers made unfair gains due to preferential access to NSE’s trading systems and another lapse in NSE’s trading architecture, the source said.
ghSmartThe company's unusual but rigorous approach to screening job candidates has won it the trust of some of the finance industry's most competitive and coveted workplaces, as well as other blue-chip corporations. "That became the kernel for ghSmart," Smart recounted in a podcast interview. That means the ghSmart interview isn't something you can necessarily prepare for in the same way you might, for example, read up on certain stocks or industry trends. The company's team of psychologists spends hours drilling into each candidate's job and life experiences. Unlike some executive-search firms, ghSmart disconnects its fee from whether it fills the role.
The remainder was equity checks by the private equity firms. Typically, debt accounts for between 60% and 80% of the deal consideration, allowing the buyout firms to juice returns. REFINANCING RISKTo be sure, a handful of private equity firms have already been accustomed to this kind of refinancing risk. An upside to the shift toward equity financing, dealmakers say, is that the companies owned by the private equity firms have more cushion to absorb losses if their business deteriorates. Many of the leveraged buyouts that became bankruptcies in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis were the result of private equity firms saddling companies with debt to the hilt.
March 13 (Reuters) - Qualtrics International Inc (XM.O) said on Monday it will go private after the customer survey software maker's controlling shareholder, SAP SE (SAPG.DE), accepted a $12.5 billion bid from an investor consortium led by Silver Lake and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). SAP agreed to the consortium's $18.15-per-share offer for Qualtrics, saying it would get about $7.7 billion for its stake. Qualtrics said earlier this month it would negotiate on an exclusive basis with Silver Lake and CPPIB until March 15 to see whether a deal could be finalized. Silver Lake Partners currently holds a 13.94% stake in Qualtrics. In 2018, SAP bought Qualtrics for $8 billion and three years later listed it in New York.
SAP ends pointless M&A roundtrip with Qualtrics
  + stars: | 2023-03-07 | by ( Karen Kwok | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +4 min
For SAP Chief Executive Christian Klein, an exit would cap a relatively pointless M&A roundtrip. In theory, SAP could have supercharged the groups’ combined revenue by offering its software to Qualtrics’ customers and vice versa. Silver Lake, a specialist in tech buyouts, is well-placed to keep that growing. One potential hiccup is that Qualtrics’ fairly paltry EBITDA limits how much debt Silver Lake can use. SAP paid $8 billion in cash for Qualtrics in 2018, and subsequently offloaded a minority stake through an initial public offering in 2021.
March 6 (Reuters) - Software maker Qualtrics International Inc (XM.O) said on Monday it has received a $12.4 billion go-private offer from private equity firm Silver Lake Management and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). The offer values Qualtrics at $18.15 per share, a premium of nearly 6% to the stock's last closing price. They have gained 8.8% since the start of February when Silver Lake first expressed its interest in Qualtrics. Qualtrics and Silver Lake have entered into an exclusivity agreement for the deal talks, which ends on March 15. Silver Lake already holds a near 4.2% stake in Qualtrics.
A keen appreciation for ideas that fly under the radar helped one emerging markets fund outperform during the pandemic. Since starting at the Matthews Emerging Markets Small Companies (MSMLX) fund in 2020, Vivek Tanneeru said he has kept his focus on small- and mid-cap companies to generate alpha (returns above a benchmark). For example, his Matthews Emerging Markets Sustainable Future fund (MISFX) fund, which he founded in 2015, is also given five stars at Morningstar. One stock Tanneeru is particularly bullish on now is Legend Biotech . For Tanneeru, small caps are a more nimble way for investors to gain access to emerging markets and tap into consumer preferences there.

PARIS, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Royal Schiphol Group has sold off its remaining stake in French airports company Aeroports de Paris (ADP) (ADP.PA), ADP said on Tuesday, prompting ADP's shares to slump as the sale took place at a sharp discount to ADP's recent share price. ADP said Royal Schiphol had sold off the shares at a price of 133 euros per share - a sharp discount to ADP's closing share price of 147.65 euros on December 5. ADP shares were down 13.68% at 127.05 euros in early session trading - the worst performer on France's SBF-120 index (.SBF120). The French state owns just over 50% of ADP's share capital. Royal Schiphol had already sold in November a 2.5% stake in ADP to Credit Agricole (CAGR.PA) and a 1.6% stake to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

Sequoia's other impacted fund, SCGE Fund, L.P. had $63.5 million invested in FTX and FTX US, according to the firm's letter to clients.
Canada's PSP fund to double issuance of long-term green bonds
  + stars: | 2022-11-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
TORONTO, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Canada’s Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) aims to more than double the C$1 billion ($749 million) value of sustainable bond issuance by 2026, an official at the pension fund told Reuters on Thursday. The pension scheme, which manages C$230.5 billion in assets, issued its first-ever green bond in February this year as part of its goal to reach net-zero emissions. Several other pensions including Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP), Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), have also issued green bonds. Neither OTPP, CPPIB nor Caisse have set targets for green bond issuance. PSP, Canada's fifth-largest pension investment manager, also increased its exposure to green assets by C$6.12 billion to C$46.5 billion in 2022, it said in a report released on Thursday.
