“The spicy trend is here to stay,” Sally Lyons Wyatt, packaged goods and foodservice industry advisor with market research firm Circana, said in an interview with CNN. Spicy plus sweet give you “Swicy.” And yes, brands are trying to make it a thing as they look for ways to stretch out the spicy trend. Starbucks in the spring also introduced limited-time hot honey drinks, made with wildflower honey infused with chili peppers, such as Hot Honey Affogato and Hot Honey Espresso Martini to the menu at its Starbucks Reserve roasteries and select US stores. Nestle has also trotted out recent spicy innovations such as California Pizza Kitchen’s hot honey croissant crust pizza, Stouffer’s spicy nacho mac and Hot Pockets x Hot Ones. “Americans have made cult-favorites out of condiments like Sriracha and hot honey.

CNN —Reassuring new evidence suggests that feeding children smooth peanut butter during infancy and early childhood can help reduce their risk of developing a peanut allergy even years later. “Peanut allergy develops very early in most children between six and 12 months of life. The LEAP-Trio trial set out to examine whether that reduced risk of peanut allergy would last into adolescence. At that age, peanut allergy remained “significantly more prevalent” among the children who originally avoided peanuts, with about 15% having a peanut allergy. Among those who originally consumed peanuts, about 4% had a peanut allergy, the researchers found.

I love “Seinfeld.” As for the actual comedian Jerry Seinfeld, however it’s…complicated. In most of his activities outside his eponymous classic sitcom (1989-1998), Seinfeld bemuses more than amuses me. This ambivalence only obliquely affects my opinion of “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s recently-released feature-length Netflix comedy. Still, I’ve always had the disquieting sense of Seinfeld somehow always Getting Away With Something when he pulls off this suave, impeccably creased act. Seinfeld isn’t about unsettling his viewers and I’m in no way suggesting he should be.

I just don’t get Taylor Swift

I just don’t get Taylor Swift. Again, I respect the Taylor Swift lovers. The Cut recently published a piece by a woman who ended a relationship with a friend who didn’t like Taylor Swift. However, the days of Taylor Swift as an ultimate cultural barometer may be waning. If you don’t love Taylor Swift, if you don’t hate her; if she is simply not something that affects your life whatsoever, it’s probably safe to come out now.

In 1998, Geoff Burdick, an executive at James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, was hunched in front of a 12-inch monitor at a postproduction house, carefully preparing “Titanic” for release on LaserDisc and VHS. The computer could erase these blemishes using a kind of copy-paste tool, concealing the defects with information from another frame. “But there were a lot of folks who said, ‘This is not right! As the picture quality has improved, restoration tools have evolved with them, making it easier than ever for filmmakers to fine-tune their work using computers. “I think they look the best they’ve ever looked,” Burdick said.

But when I discovered a London-based project turning discarded chicken feathers into edible proteins, I admit I was skeptical. The company behind the project, Kera Protein Ltd., has a unique approach to its lab-produced protein product. Since then, he and his business partner, Tom Washington, have delved into the issue of waste management - focusing particularly on chicken feathers. To make the food we tried, Kera extracted feathers from discarded chicken carcasses in partnership with a local farm. “We hope to revolutionize the way people view chicken feathers, demonstrating their potential as a valuable resource rather than just a dirty by-product.”

TOKYO (AP) — Health supplement products believed to have caused two deaths and sickened more than 100 people have been ordered to be taken off store shelves in Japan. The products from Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., billed as helping to lower cholesterol, contained an ingredient called “benikoji,” a red species of mold. The ministry has put up a list on its official site of all the recalled products, including some that use benikoji for food coloring. The recalled products could be bought without a prescription from a doctor, and could be purchased at drug stores. The ministry official warned there could be more victims in the days ahead.

"Advertising on Reddit is rapidly evolving, and we are still in the early phases of growing this business," Reddit wrote in its IPO filing. The company said advertisers were attracted to Reddit due to its "high-intent" audience, much of which is hunting for product recommendations. And elsewhere, Reddit doesn't have the kind of e-commerce structure that Meta, TikTok, and Google have built, experts said. It has poached ad talent from companies like Pinterest and Meta to grow its ad business. Also last year, Jim Squires, a former longtime Meta ad exec, joined Reddit in a new role as EVP of business marketing and growth.

A Rich Braise From a Cheap Cut

I like corned beef and cabbage myself for the holiday — Irish American food to ship up to Boston with, soda bread on the side. For you, then, this incredible bourbon-braised beef (above) that Vallery Lomas developed for us. The whiskey adds a fantastic complexity to a cheap cut of boneless beef chuck burbled with maple syrup, caramelized tomato paste, thyme, bay leaves and hints of both soy sauce and lemon juice. It’s as Irish as Carmela Soprano, but I’d serve it to your ma tonight with no misgivings. (Save the leftover braising liquid to make French onion soup.)

For Gabrielle Morse, a gut health specialist and registered dietitian at The Gut Health Clinic, that involves buying a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables each week while also keeping her store cupboard stocked with a few staples to make nutritious and tasty meals. That enables her to hit her goal of eating 30 plants — from beans, nuts, and seeds to spices and dark chocolate — a week without meal planning. However, Morse, like other gut health experts, says eating 30 different plant foods a week is best for the gut microbiome, the trillions of microbes that live in the digestive system.
