Bryson DeChambeau’s brilliant bunker shot at 18 and winning putt that followed capped off a remarkable week at Pinehurst No. His second U.S. Open win comes at age 30, another rare accomplishment. DeChambeau will try to become the first player since Woods in 2000 to win The Open and U.S. Open in the same season.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Bernhard Langer tore his Achilles tendon while exercising and had surgery on Friday, putting the 66-year-old German out of golf during a year he planned to play the Masters one last time. Jack Burke Jr., who was the oldest living Masters champion and staged the greatest comeback ever at Augusta National for one of his two majors, died Friday in Houston. Burke, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, also won the PGA Championship and was equally skilled as a teacher. Few golfers relish a U.S. Open quite like Brooks Koepka. He first lifted a major trophy at Erin Hills in 2017, and then he did it again the next year at Shinnecock Hills. But Koepka has this week become a paradoxical, brand-name exhibit in an unexpected debate: Is this U.S. Open, the first at the venerable and cloistered Los Angeles Country Club, too easy? It was only on Tuesday that Koepka had been talking about how the tournament’s historical ferocity was a perverse source of comfort. “If it’s going to be a birdiefest where 20-, 21-under wins,” Koepka added, “that’s really not the style.”

Many Airbnb hosts are currently facing empty booking calendars and stiff competition. Vacation rental bookings started slowing down in 2022 and we've since entered an era coined 'Airbnbust.' "You can make more monthly money because people will pay more for a vacation rental than a long-term rental," he told Insider. Heilbron owns a second Airbnb property in Pinehurst, North Carolina, where golf events are frequently hosted. Courtesy of Avery HeilbronAnother major perk of owning a short-term vacation rental in Pinehurst is that the village hosts a lot of golf tournaments, including the U.S.
Durham-based real estate investor Avery Heilbron owns 5 properties on his own and co-owns one. He afforded his first place by house hacking and says it's "the most inexpensive way to buy real estate." What allowed him to go from an average earner in America to above-average was real estate investing. Kai Anderson's book "Retire on Real Estate" was what originally nudged him in the direction of owning property, he said. "There are a lot of ways to get into real estate without actually using a lot of money," Heilbron emphasized.
He puts most of his savings in a high-yield account so it's highly accessible. "I'm 100% financially free for what my current lifestyle is from all the rental income that I get," the 28-year-old real estate investor told Insider. Recently, he started dipping his toe into the short-term vacation rental market. Since he's actively looking to buy more real estate, he likes to keep his savings highly accessible, which is why he chooses to put the majority of his money in a high-yield savings account. Some high-yield accounts are offering rates as high as 5.02% (UFB Preferred Savings), 4.45% (Bask Bank Interest Savings Account), and 4.35% (Primis Savings Account and MySavingsDirect Savings Account).
PINEHURST, N. C.—Local road projects are often contentious affairs that drag on. Dec 8 (Reuters) - A North Carolina utility said on Thursday it had restored power to all of the homes and businesses affected by what authorities described as an orchestrated gunfire attack that disabled two substations last week. Duke Energy Corp said 45,000 customers who lost power in the attack in Moore County five days earlier had electric service restored. Schools across the county of 100,000 people canceled classes for students for the forth day on Thursday. School officials were worked to ensure that electrical, HVAC and communications were operational before resuming classes, they told local media. Federal law enforcement officials were helping an investigation into the situation, which was also monitored by the White House.
