The artificial intelligence revolution is just getting started, and that means there are opportunities for investors to scoop up some names at a discount, according to Evercore ISI. Yet adoption is low, with less than 5% of U.S. firms reporting using AI, he said, citing U.S. Census Bureau data. To find "AI revolutionaries" that are trading at a discount, Evercore ISI looked for companies in the Russell 1000 with strongly trending AI mentions — either surpassing the index or the company's sector average. One of the names on the list is Uber Technologies , which mentioned AI 17 times last year. The company is also using AI to increase productivity.

We will only consider more general questions about the investment process or stocks in the portfolio or related industries. Also: What stop-loss percentage do you use for portfolio stocks? A stop-loss order is an order one can place to sell shares if they fall below a predetermined level. As a result, if bad news breaks and stock is set to open materially lower, your stop-loss order could be triggered. We don't find much use in stop-loss orders because we're monitoring our portfolio stocks constantly.

Higher sales and lower COGS resulted in better-than-expected gross margin expansion that trickled down to a bottom-line beat. The company's pretax profit margin also expanded versus the year-ago period, benefiting from a higher merchandise margin. The strong merchandise margin was attributable to less shrink (theft), reduced freight costs, and lower markdowns. Just consider three core holdings in the portfolio: Apple , Starbucks , and Nvidia . Nvidia generates 21% of its overall revenue from Mainland China, while Apple gets 19%, and Starbucks 9%. Xiamen-based Luckin Coffee, for example, overtook Starbucks in market share in China during 2023, with double the retail locations there. However, Nvidia still dominates the AI chip market in China, and it's difficult to see its rivals catching up anytime soon. The company has twice re-engineered chips for the Chinese market to comply with U.S. rules.

Exchange-traded funds come in many shapes and sizes. Some are plain vanilla, diversified index funds that let you invest in the entire stock and bond markets, and are excellent core holdings for the great majority of people. Then there are the quirky, narrowly focused E.T.F.s like the Inverse Cramer Tracker, which enables you to bet against the stock picks of the CNBC television host Jim Cramer. The fund is legal, approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission — and a money-loser since its inception last year. Betting against Jim Cramer just isn’t a great investing strategy.

Examining overbought or oversold stock levels could be helpful signals for investors looking to add or reduce exposure in a position. When evaluating these names, Bespoke reviewed the standard deviations above or below each stock's 50-day moving average. If a stock is one or more standard deviation above its 50-day moving average, it's classified as overbought. If it's more than one standard deviation below its 50-day moving average, it's oversold. Two or more standard deviations away from the 50-day moving average is classified as an "extreme" overbought or oversold reading.

The fourth-quarter earnings come after the Vision Fund unit posted four consecutive quarters of investment loss, with investors debating whether the value of privately held stakes have further to fall. Portfolio firms of the Vision Fund unit whose shares climbed during January-March include e-commerce firm Coupang Inc (CPNG.N) and robotics firm AutoStore Holdings Ltd (AUTO.OL). Bonds may have become more appealing as Treasury yields hit new highs. But investment strategist Amy Kong says stocks are still attractive. Bonds compete with stocks for investor dollars, so when bond yields rise, stock prices can go down. But Kong remains upbeat on the longer term. Valuations remain a critical metric to consider as higher price-to- earnings stocks carry greater downside risk.

Amazon Amazon has been battling with rightsizing its business due to the pull-forward demand it experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. We'd also like to see how the company is addressing slower growth at its cloud business, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
