New York CNN —Amazon is eliminating the use of the puffy plastic air pillows used in delivery boxes, joining other major companies that are cutting their plastic use. The company said it was shipping 15 billion plastic pillows annually, and the changes represent its largest plastic packaging reduction effort in North America. Amazon has already stopped using them in 95% of deliveries and they will stop completely by the end of the year. A new paper filler made from 100% recycled content will replace the plastic pillows. Amazon has stopped using plastic pillows in other countries, including Australia, India and nations across Europe, in recent years, which resulted the company in using nearly 12% less plastic in 2023 compared to the year prior.

CNN —Despite its name, June’s full moon will not look like a strawberry. But the bright orb could still turn heads Friday night with an appearance that is bigger and more colorful than the average moon. Since a full moon is opposite the sun, this strawberry moon will shine lower in the sky than usual, according to NASA. Native American tribes across North America gave the strawberry moon its name to mark the in-season ripeness of strawberries, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. York CNN —Teamsters President Sean O’Brien will speak to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July, a sign that former President Donald Trump’s campaign is hoping to peel off the support of union members from President Joe Biden. But unlike other speakers at the RNC, O’Brien’s appearance does not represent an endorsement of Trump, according to Teamsters union spokesperson Kara Deniz. O’Brien has requested the opportunity to also speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August. “Our GREAT convention will unify Americans and demonstrate to the nation’s working families they come first,” Trump wrote. “This is truly unprecedented since it will be the very first time a Teamsters General President has addressed the RNC,” she said in an email.

CNN —Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson said it was difficult to return to Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, for the Negro Leagues tribute game Thursday because of the onslaught of racism he experienced when he played there decades ago. The team played at Rickwood Field. Mays played for the Birmingham Black Barons, a Negro League baseball team that called Rickwood Field home until their last season in 1963. The game between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals both paid tribute to the Negro Leagues and honored Mays’s legacy. Approximately 60 Negro League players were in attendance – marking the largest official gathering of the league’s players in nearly 30 years, according to the MLB.

CNN —Big changes are coming for New York’s youngest social media users after Gov. The unprecedented move makes New York the first state to pass a law regulating social media algorithms amid nationwide allegations that apps such as Instagram or TikTok have hooked users with addictive features. New York officials hailed the legislation as a critical check on social media platforms’ influence over teens. “Algorithmic curation makes teenagers’ feeds healthier, and banning algorithms is going to make social media worse for teens.”The legislation’s signing sets the stage for another in a long string of court battles over state social media laws. Not every private school is “synonymous with privilege and great wealth,” argues Sue Hannam, headteacher at Lichfield Cathedral School, a private school in central England. About 620,000 children are currently enrolled in private schools in Britain, equivalent to almost 6% of all school children, according to the Independent Schools Council.
