Oleg Panteleev, head of the AviaPort aviation think-tank in Moscow, said Russian airlines have "solved the problem" of operating under Western sanctions. When those firms stopped providing services – Lufthansa Technik said it suspended sales to Russia from Feb. 28, 2022 – Russian airlines turned to a pool of far smaller suppliers. Ivan Melnicov, chief executive of Air Rock and another aircraft parts distributor in Moldova called Aerostage Services, denied selling products to Russia. Most of the shipments listed in Russian customs records as having been made by Air Rock and Aerostage took circuitous routes, transiting through the UAE or Kyrgyzstan. He said Skyparts had procured one of the Northrop Grumman parts from a U.S. supplier but denied ever sending it to Russia.

Russia's biggest airline reportedly sent a plane to Iran for the first time for maintenance. Boeing and Airbus both stopped supplying Russian airlines with spare parts as part of the sanctions last spring. Aircraft lessors in the European Union were required to end contracts with Russian airlines last March. Analysts predicted Russia could start "cannibalizing" its fleet of planes for parts as Western sanctions blocked suppliers from sending parts and providing repairs for Russian airplanes. Russia reportedly signed an agreement with Iran last July to supply Russian airlines with Iranian airplane parts, and for Iran to provide maintenance and repairs for Russian aircraft.

Experții Forbes din industria aviației estimează pierderile companiilor aeriene „Pobeda” și „Rossiya” din ziua sosirii lui Navalnîi în Rusia. Compania aeriană „Pobeda” a confirmat pentru tvrain.ru că, din cauza închiderii „Vnukovo”, trei dintre zborurile lor au fost mutate într-un aerodrom alternativ. Piloții însă, au fost informați de către dispeceri că aeroportul a fost închis din cauza unui avion care ar fi ieșit în afara pistei. Analistul independent de economie a aviației, Dmitry Adamidov, a estimat pierderile pentru companiile aeriene la aproximativ 150 000 de ruble per avion într-un singur sens. Reamintim că odată ce a ajuns la Moscova, Aleksei Navalnîi a fost reținut de poliție după perioada petrecută în Germania în urma otrăvirii cu un agent neurotoxic din clasa Noviciok, în data de 20 august 2020.
