Olaplex is losing ground with hairstylists, a key source of new customers for hair care products. The brand's sales through stylists fell 61% during its second quarter, which ended in June. But according to Olaplex, stylists play an outsized role in growing sales. One of them was a lawsuit, in which about 100 Olaplex users claimed that the company's products had caused hair loss and other damage. Other products that claim to strengthen users' hair have also appeared on the market, increasing competition for Olaplex products.

The Wall Street investment bank polled its analysts about the probability of M & A activity of the companies under its research coverage. Analysts were tasked with assigning a "1" ranking to those possible targets if the probability was 30%-50% of M & A activity in the next 12 months. In a tight credit environment and amid concern about a looming recession, M & A activity saw a sluggish first half of the year. The market is expected to open up as interest rates stop rising, and the stocks on Goldman's list could have the potential to be taken over once credit becomes more available. Health care stocks Maravai LifeSciences , Quanterix Corp ., Enhabit also have a relatively high likelihood of being M & A targets in the next 12 months, according to Goldman analysts.

I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum and The Good C Serum. She has a personal line of products called Katalaya Skin Care; right now I’m using her Rejuvenating Moisturizer. When I want to make it look like I’ve slept well, I’ll mix my foundation in with my moisturizer for light coverage. I love the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation because it looks like skin and it doesn’t take much for it to seamlessly blend. I’m somebody who takes excess blush and puts it on my eyes, so right now I’m using Dior Rouge Blush in Grand Bal.

But when she started posting videos sponsored by Bud Light, Olay and Nike, her accounts became flooded with anti-trans hate. After cultivating a sizable following during the pandemic, Mulvaney came out as a trans woman in March 2022. The Social Media Rise and Crash of Olaplex

Even by the light-speed standard of social media, Olaplex had a fast rise—and suffered an even quicker backlash. Founded in 2014, the hair-care company built a following with salon treatments whose bond-building technology addressed common hair complaints: split ends, breakage, frizz and color damage. Olaplex became a byword for hairstylists and beauty influencers, leading the company to make a consumer product line and a splashy Wall Street debut.
Eight top Olaplex employees have left the company since October, Insider has learned. Her LinkedIn profile says she joined the online-game company Big Fish this year as vice president of people and culture. Kathy Lewis, Olaplex's vice president of education, had been on "contracted sabbatical" since December, according to her LinkedIn profile. The hair-care brand Wella said in a LinkedIn post last week that it hired Lewis as the vice president and global head of education. Olaplex grew its head count over the following year to 174 employees, according to its 10-K filing in February.
Olaplex is launching an eyelash serum, its first product outside of hair care. Olaplex is trying to stoke growth as demand for its hair care products wanes and it faces a lawsuit. The hair care brand is launching a serum designed to strengthen your eyelashes, Women's Wear Daily reported on Monday. But for 2023, sales from products like the lash serum will be small and outweighed by falling demand for Olaplex's core hair care products. In response, CEO Wong has said that Olaplex products are safe, and that the complaints are "a fact of life in our industry."
Olaplex is facing a lawsuit from users claiming the products made their hair fall out. The hair care brand is defending itself against a lawsuit from a growing number of users who claim that the company's bond-building products damaged their hair. Olaplex is investing in sales and marketing campaigns to boost sales — a move that risks disappointing investors focused on the company's profitAs a young brand, Olaplex kept its marketing and sales budgets slim. "However, [Olaplex] is now recognizing the need to invest in marketing and sales to support growth," the TD Cowen analysts said. A full set of Olaplex products costs $240 on the company's website.
Dozens more customers have joined an ongoing lawsuit against the TikTok-famous brand Olaplex. More than 100 customers now say in an amended suit that they suffered physical injuries like hair loss. Olaplex has said clinical tests have shown its hair products to be "safe and effective." Dozens of customers have joined an amended complaint filed Thursday night in California federal court, adding to a rising volume of allegations that Olaplex products can cause hair loss and scalp problems. "However, Olaplex products do not cause hair loss or hair breakage."
Olaplex's fourth-quarter sales fell nearly 22%, and the company expects the declines to continue into 2023. Net sales at the hair care brand fell nearly 22% to $130.7 million during the fourth quarter of 2022. The company's stock is down 76% since its September 2021 IPO. Olaplex faced competition from new bond-building hair care brands during the quarter, CEO JuE Wong said during the company's earnings call on Tuesday. "However, Olaplex products do not cause hair loss or breakage," she added.
JuE Wong said that Olaplex's hair care products are "safe and effective" in a LinkedIn post. The company is facing a lawsuit that claims Olaplex products damaged some customers' hair. But JuE Wong, Olaplex's CEO, said in a LinkedIn post on Thursday that Olaplex's products are not to blame for those problems. She quoted recent articles on Olaplex, including Insider's coverage, which say that a direct connection between the products and effects like hair loss are hard to prove. A Facebook group called "Olaplex Hair Loss/Hair Damage?"
All that extra cash should support strong spending through February and perhaps March, said Bank of America analysts. That means the Fed may use the strong data as an excuse to keep hiking interest rates. Recession risk may be deferred, but it certainly hasn’t dissipated.”PPI, housing starts and bald spots: What investors are watching today▸ Thursday morning brings two big data releases: The January Producer Price Index and housing starts. ▸ Housing starts, a measure of new home construction, have declined every month since August. Housing starts are expected to decline slightly.
Olaplex, facing a new lawsuit over its hair products, said tests show its products are safe. The brand, a staple in TikTok hair care routines, posted "third-party" test records on its website. "As such, there is no induced inflammation to the hair follicle, which is the primary cause of hair loss." The test reports that Olaplex posted were issued by a number of laboratories including BioScreen Testing Services Inc., Consumer Product Testing Company, and Brazil-based Allergisa Pesquisa Dermato Cosmética Ltda. A representative for Olaplex said on Wednesday that the HRIPT reports are "industry standard and reflect the use of Olaplex products under real world conditions."

Insider has previously reported on Olaplex customers who said they experienced hair loss and got refunds. "OLAPLEX products do not cause hair loss or hair breakage," a spokesperson for the company told Insider in a statement. Insider has previously reported on customers alleging that they experienced hair loss after using Olaplex products and reported that some had even received refunds. Olaplex's statement added that there are "a wide variety of reasons for hair breakage or hair loss," calling the allegations in the lawsuit, "baseless accusations." "Defendants have been dismissive of their customers' hair loss, instead describing hair shedding as normal and unavoidable and attributing the hair loss to a long list of other potential causes," they wrote.
Olaplex has been sued by customers who alleged its products damaged their hair and scalp. Companies like Thinx, P&G, and Unilever have set aside millions of dollars to settle consumer suits. The suit's allegations follow a pattern familiar in other consumer lawsuits, which have also targeted companies' advertising and the ingredients in their products. In that case, customers said Devacurl's curly hair products contained ingredients that released formaldehyde and caused skin irritation, and said the company had quietly changed ingredients and formed a committee to handle negative publicity. Devacurl has said on its settlement website that it "vigorously denies" claims of health problems like hair loss and scalp problems.
