Mr. Hill, 40, then got into an altercation with the police and was himself arrested after a struggle. Mr. Hill and Mr. Wilson are both Black and citizens of Native American tribes in Oklahoma. Mr. Wilson’s case was dismissed, but Mr. Hill’s request was denied. Mr. Hill is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation through ancestors called Freedmen — Black people who were enslaved by Native tribes. Because Mr. Hill’s ancestors did not have Indian blood, he was found in court not to be Indian.

Seven bodies were found on a piece of property in rural Oklahoma on Monday afternoon during a search for two teenage girls who had been reported missing and were said to have been seen with a convicted sex offender, according to officials with the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office. None of the seven victims were identified, and the authorities would not say whether they included the missing girls, Ivy Webster, 14, and Brittany Brewer, 16. But Sheriff Eddy Rice said that the authorities had called off the search for Ivy and Brittany after the bodies were found at the property, near Henryetta, the county seat, and just south of Tulsa. “We believe to have found everything that we were seeking this morning,” Sheriff Rice said. The sheriff said he could not provide any details about the seven deaths, but said the case was being investigated as a homicide.
May 1 (Reuters) - The bodies of seven people, including two missing teens and a convicted sex offender, were found Monday afternoon on a property in the small Oklahoma city of Henryetta, the county sheriff said. Other bodies likely included McFadden and members of his family, Rice said, cautioning that none of the victims had yet been formally identified by the county medical examiner. The county issued an amber alert earlier Monday saying the two teens were missing, but the alert was called off after the bodies were found. Rice said officers arrived at about 3 p.m. to search the property and found the bodies. They are no longer looking for the missing teens or for McFadden.
The bodies were found at a property in Henryetta, a city about 90 miles from Oklahoma City, authorities said. The bodies were found “not in the residence, but just on the property,” Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Gerald Davidson told reporters Monday. “Our hearts are hurting, and we have considered what would be best for our students in the coming days,” the school system said. The school system added that classes would not be canceled and that students would have access to mental health professionals and faith-based clergy. “Please continue to keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.”A vigil for the “families affected by this tragedy” was scheduled for Monday evening, the school system said on Facebook.
Dec 6 (Reuters) - An Oklahoma man was charged with four counts of murder in the killing and dismemberment of four men he believed were stealing from his salvage yard, according to court documents. Joseph Lloyd Kennedy, 67, was charged in Okmulgee County court on Monday. Kennedy was already on probation for shooting a man in 2012 who he believed was stealing from his salvage yard. Okmulgee County district attorney Carol Iski, who announced the charges against Kennedy on Monday, was asked by reporters whether the men were stealing from Kennedy's salvage yard. She replied that it would not matter as "we don't have a death penalty in Oklahoma for stealing."
A man arrested in connection with the slayings of four Oklahoma bicyclists’ allegedly told a friend that he killed and dismembered them because "they were stealing from him," court documents show. From left, Alex Stevens, Mark Chastain, Billy Chastain, and Mike Sparks. Court documents state that Kennedy parked his Chrysler PT Cruiser across the street from the scrap yard around 3 p.m. on Oct. 9, before the killings. Kennedy allegedly traveled back and forth from the scrap yard several times. Bloodied items belonging to Mark Chastain were also found in the vacant lot, the document says.
Mark Chastain, 32, and Billy Chastain, 30, were the “definition of brothers and were always together,” their grandmother, Milissia Smith, said in a verified online fundraiser. Billy Chastain — who went by BJ — was a handyman with four children, two girls and two boys ages 2 to 12, Gordon said. Megan GordonGordon said the last time she spoke to Billy Chastain was the day before he vanished. An affidavit filed for the grand theft charge states that Kennedy told the arresting officer that the truck's owner told him he could borrow the vehicle whenever he wanted. Kennedy told the officer he took the truck last week and drove to Florida for a weekend vacation, the document says.
Police arrested a "person of interest" in the slayings of four Oklahoma bicyclists in central Florida — more than 1,200 miles away, authorities said Tuesday. Joseph Kennedy, 67, was arrested in Daytona Beach Shores, in a car "that was reported stolen to the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office" Monday, according to a statement from police in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Kennedy was arrested without incident and did not make any statement to officers, according to Fowler. "Upon confirming (with police in Oklahoma) his status as a missing person we were notified that he is a person of interest in a quadruple homicide," Fowler said. The four men were reported missing early last week after they left on their bicycles.
Oct 18 (Reuters) - A salvage yard owner who authorities consider a "person of interest" in the murder of four men whose dismembered bodies were found in an Oklahoma river has been arrested in Florida on unrelated charges, police said on Tuesday. Joe Kennedy, 67, was taken into custody in Daytona Beach Shores while driving a car that had been reported stolen in Oklahoma, police in the Oklahoma city of Okmulgee said in a statement. Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice has described Kennedy as a person of interest in the Oklahoma killings and said evidence of a "violent event" was found on a property adjacent to his salvage yard. Kennedy was being held without bail in Daytona Beach Shores and will face extradition proceedings to return to him to Oklahoma, officials said. Four Oklahoma men who had gone missing while on a bicycle ride were shot and their dismembered bodies were discarded into a river, police said Monday. All four were shot and identifications were slowed because their bodies had been dismembered, according to Prentice. "We believe the men planned to commit some type of criminal act," Prentice told reporters. The investigation led police over the weekend to a salvage yard. The chief named the salvage yard owner, Joe Kennedy, as a "person of interest," who detectives are seeking to interview.
What appear to be "multiple” human remains were found partially submerged in a river in the small Oklahoma city of Okmulgee Friday, nearly a week after the disappearance of four adult friends, authorities said Friday. It wasn’t clear if the remains were of the four men, Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice told reporters. Prentice said he notified the families of the missing men, who were last seen Sunday night leaving a home by bicycle, even though the remains haven’t been identified. The department on Tuesday named the missing men as Mark Chastain, 32; Billy Chastain, 30; Mike Sparks, 32; and Alex Stevens, 29. That data showed them traveling east, then south, Prentice said, adding that authorities hadn't been searching in the area where the remains were discovered.
