David Paterson and his stepson were attacked Friday while on a walk in Manhattan by assailants who had “a previous interaction” with the stepson, a spokesperson for Paterson said. Paterson, 70, and his adult stepson both went to a hospital as precaution after the attack on Second Avenue in East Harlem, according to Paterson's spokesperson, Sean Darcy, and New York City police. "Governor Paterson and his stepson were attacked this evening while taking a walk around the block near their home by some individuals that had a previous interaction with his stepson,” Darcy said in a statement. Eliot Spitzer and took over as governor in March 2008 after Spitzer resigned mid-term following a prostitution scandal. Police said when officers arrived, Paterson had injuries to his head and another man had injuries to his face.

Vista struck a deal to sell its sporting goods unit, Revelyst, to investment firm Strategic Value Partners for $1.1 billion, according to a statement seen by Reuters. Taken together, the two deals value Vista at $45 per share, topping a rival $43 per share offer from MNC Capital, an investment firm led by former Vista board member Mark Gottfredson. The sale of Revelyst is expected to close by January, subject to regulatory approvals and the completion of the CSG deal. In June, the CSG deal was cleared by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which reviews foreign investments over possible national security concerns. In July, Vista launched a strategic review to explore all its options, after failing to gather investor support for the CSG deal.

After the shots were fired, Shifflett immediately yelled “stop reaching” and told other officers that he saw Johnson reaching in his waistband. During cross-examination, Sands asked Shifflett about shooting Johnson before commanding that the victim “stop reaching.”“My motor functions were operating more quickly than I could verbalize,” Shifflett said. A black bear was hit by a car and killed on a Tennessee highway after it found a delicious snack on the side of the road while it was bulking up for winter, officials with the Appalachian Bear Rescue said on Facebook. The rescue group, or ABR, said it received a report of an adult black bear that had been struck and killed on Highway 321 coming into Townsend, Tennessee, on Tuesday. While inspecting the bear's remains, they then saw what drew the bear to the busy highway in the first place — a platter of pancakes. "With fall hyperphagia in full swing, the male bear probably saw the pancakes as an easy, high caloric meal." The agency reminded residents to live responsibly in the area, where black bears are common.

Gregory Delpeche, 49, a city hospital worker, was shot Sept. 15 while he was riding the L train. Lawmakers are appealing to President Joe Biden to use the remaining time in his term to work for the release of Americans who are “wrongfully detained” in China, saying U.S. officials need to do more to help secure their freedom. “There are more Americans wrongfully detained in China than in any other country.
