No, the tech that’s going to save humanity will be powered by the tech that very nearly destroyed it. The tech industry’s solution, for now, is nuclear energy, which is more stable than wind or solar and is virtually carbon-emission-free. Amazon is working on putting a data center campus right on the site of a Talen Energy nuclear power plant in Northeast Pennsylvania. And while AI doomer predictions often get brushed off as alarmist forecasts, you can’t as readily dismiss the folks who are concerned about nuclear energy. Bottom line: There’s no AI future without a serious uptick in our power supply, which makes the expansion of nuclear power practically unavoidable.

CNN —Emotional support animals registrations in the United States reached 115,832 last year, by an industry group’s count. But in the eyes of reptile rescuer Joie Henney, there’s only one:“Wally Gator” – his “gentle” certified emotional support alligator. The department “routinely” gets calls about “nuisance alligators,” she said, and refers callers to a permitted alligator agent trapper, per its protocols. Wally is often shown letting others pet and hold him, with Henney telling CNN in 2022, “He doesn’t show anger. We never could understand why.”Emotional support alligator, Wally, wanders in 2022 around Love Park in Philadelphia.

Twelve news organizations on Sunday urged presumptive presidential nominees Joe Biden and Donald Trump to agree to debates, saying they were a "rich tradition" that have been part of every general election campaign since 1976. Asked on March 8 whether he would commit to a debate with Trump, Biden said, "it depends on his behavior." The Republican National Committee voted in 2022 to no longer participate in forums sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates. The Trump campaign has not indicated it would adhere to that, but did have some conditions. There was no immediate response from the Trump campaign.

Amodei chatted with Insider about her approach to trust and safety and what the future holds for AI. However, the majority of Anthropic cofounder and president Daniela Amodei's career has been spent trying to prove the opposite: that trust and safety is a feature, not a bug. "It's an organizational structure question, but it's also a mindset question," she told Insider. In 2020, Amodei and six other OpenAI employees, including her brother Dario Amodei, left the company to start rival AI lab Anthropic. Throughout Anthropic's growth, the company has kept an interdisciplinary culture, with employees whose experiences range from physics to computational biology to policywriting, Amodei told Insider.

THROOP, Pa.— The highest prices in years have made producing natural gas profitable just about anywhere. But with companies trimming their emissions and new tax breaks for waste-to-energy projects, some of the most lucrative places to extract gas are garbage dumps. Down the western slope of Keystone Sanitary Landfill, a knot of pipes, membranes and compressors draws fumes from within the mountain of rotting trash, separates the methane from other gases, and pumps it into northeast Pennsylvania’s natural-gas grid.

New York CNN Business —US factories are humming, and manufacturers are scrambling to find workers as the pace of hiring hits levels not seen in decades. Experts say one of the biggest problems manufacturers face in attracting workers is their perception of the nature of the job. Manufacturing remains a male-dominated industry, with only 30% of hourly factory jobs held by women, according to NAM. Today less than 10% of private sector jobs are in manufacturing, compared to more than 40% at the end of World War II. The Labor Department reports the average weekly wage for manufacturing jobs is $1,250, or $65,000 annually — 11% more than private sector jobs overall, and 81% more than retail jobs.
