Most people know me as Elliott Harrell, but that wasn't my actual name until recently. Initially, I thought I'd use Elliott Harrell socially and my given legal name when mandated and that everything would be fine. Elliott Harrell changed her name after having her second child. My name was legally changed over three months ago and since then I've been working on getting things like my license, passport, and even my Costco card changed over. AdvertisementEven though I'm still in the depths of paperwork hell, I'm so glad I decided to move forward with the process.

Teddy was the youngest person in the country to get a brain implant to help. Teddy didn't smile at us or reach for objects, but at first, his doctors weren't concerned that he wasn't meeting milestones. Teddy has seen a reduction in his seizures since receiving the brain implant. Courtesy Children's NebraskaI knew if we didn't do something, I worried Teddy would dieI knew the doctor was right. Yet the treatment we were considering, a brain implant called responsive neurostimulation (RNS), was only approved for adults.

"There is also a wide swath of experience that happens underneath the surface for people with OCD," Riven said. "It's very common to see individuals with OCD experience a lot of distress that can go entirely undetected by people in their lives because it's all happening privately in the mind." He shared some of the lesser-known OCD symptoms, many of which can be subtle or tricky to spot. He said everyone has intrusive thoughts, such as steering your car into the opposite lane, from time to time. AdvertisementTo distinguish if it's a possible symptom of OCD, Riven asks questions to understand how much a patient analyzes those intrusive thoughts.

My brother and I were born on November 19, 2000, 12 weeks and two days before our due date. I feel guilty that our health was poor, I feel guilty my parents were unable to take us both home at once, and I feel guilty that my parents' only experience with birth was so painful. As I've grown up, I've noticed in an effort to counterbalance this guilt, I've done everything in my power to make my parents proud. I often wonder if there are any other young adults who were born prematurely who feel guilty the same way I do. Maybe this life I've been given is a miracle, but whatever it is, I know I'm grateful.

Tracy Warren cofounded Astarte Medical in 2016 to improve care for premature babies. Astarte, which sells software to standardize nutrition for babies in intensive care units, had raised $14 million in venture funding to date and landed contracts with four hospitals. Last year, the startup wasn't able to land as many new contracts as it hoped, with hospitals struggling to manage their slim margins. But Astarte ultimately decided not to make the promise to build AI into its tech for clinical decision-making. The startup is hoping to find a buyer by the end of the first quarter of the year.

Leslie Redmond, 37, moved to Winnipeg, Canada, from Alaska in 2022. There's a really big Ukrainian population and a really big Polish population. So there are a lot of flavors and foods that are really ubiquitous up here that I wouldn't have had in the States. That was the case across Canada — and across the US — but I think that's kind of slowed down a little bit now. I would say Winnipeg is pretty equivalent to Alaska, but Alaska is higher than what you would find in the lower 48.

Officials Urge Moldova to Seize Opportunity for EU Membership

By Alexander TanasCHISINAU (Reuters) - Moldova launched a nationwide discussion on securing European Union membership, with senior officials and academics urging their compatriots to seize every opportunity to join the bloc or run the risk of being left behind or sinking into chaos. Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu launched the discussion on EU membership on Friday, saying that public participation "has a critical meaning in building a more prosperous future within the framework of the community of Europe". The Moscow-sympathetic opposition, thrown out of power by Sandu's landslide 2020 election victory, is sceptical about EU membership. Moldovans, their country wedged between Ukraine and EU member Romania, have proved enthusiastic. Sandu and other officials have suggested that Moldova should forge ahead with its EU membership bid and ignore separatist Transdniestria, much like Cyprus was allowed to join despite the Turkish occupation of its northern regions since the 1970s.

An artificial womb for humans would be a scientific advance that could help solve a major health problem. An artificial womb is not designed to replace a pregnant person; it could not be used from conception until birth. The artificial womb could be able to help the baby develop further through those vital final stages when the lung and brain are developing. In each study, the artificial womb is constructed a little bit differently. If an artificial womb was ultimately approved for use with humans, doctors will have to have conversations with parents about how successful such an intervention could be.

U.S. sanctions target Russian influence campaign in Moldova

WASHINGTON, June 5 (Reuters) - The United States imposed sanctions on Monday on members of a Russian intelligence-linked group for their role in Moscow's efforts to destabilize democracy and influence elections in Moldova, the Treasury Department said. The new sanctions target seven Russian individuals, some of whom maintain ties to Russian intelligence services, the department said in a statement. They include the group's leader, Konstantin Prokopyevich Sapozhnikov, who organized the plot to destabilize the government of Moldova in early 2023, it said. The group's members provoke, train and oversee groups in democratic countries and conduct anti-government protests, rallies, marches and demonstrations, it added. Brian Nelson, the department's undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said Monday's sanctions expose Russia's ongoing efforts to destabilize democratic nations.

As more Americans try to grow their families through fertility treatments, Progyny will be a big beneficiary, according to BTIG. The Wall Street firm initiated coverage of the stock with a buy rating on Monday, noting that the benefits management company is "delivering the joy of parenthood" with its superior outcomes. Progyny partners with companies to provide fertility and family-building benefits for employees. "With a tight labor market, companies are more consistently seeking to work with Progyny in order to be able to attract and retain high-quality talent," Larsen said. There are smaller fast-growing companies entering the space that serve more niche areas relating to fertility," Larsen wrote.
BUCHAREST, April 7 (Reuters) - Thousands of farmers protested across Romania on Friday over the impact of Ukrainian grain imports on prices, blocking traffic and border checkpoints with tractors and trucks and urging the European Commission to intervene. Anger is rising among farmers in Central and Eastern Europe over a flood of cheap Ukrainian grain imports, exempt from customs fees until June 2024, which have hurt prices and sales of local producers. Across the country, thousands of farmers used tractors, trucks and other machinery to block roads and borders. It decided to hand out compensation worth 56.3 million euros to Polish, Bulgarian and Romanian farmers, with more to come. On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he expected decisions to be announced in coming days and weeks to alleviate anger among Polish farmers.
Wizz Air to suspend Moldova flights, citing security

Wizz Air said in a statement it would lay on extra flights from the Romanian city of Iasi as replacements, including a new service to Berlin, and more flights to Barcelona, Milan Bergamo, Bologna, Rome Ciampino, Rome Fuimicino, Dortumand, Larnaca, London Luton and Treviso. Flights to Budapest and Prague will not be replaced and those inbound to Chisinau will be reallocated to other destinations in the Wizz Air network, it said. Tensions between Russia and Moldova have grown in recent months as Russian missiles aimed at Ukraine have entered Moldovan airspace and authorities have blamed the Kremlin for fuelling anti-government protests, something it denies. It said the civil aviation authority and the ministry of infrastructure and regional development had been in "constant cooperation" with Wizz Air representatives and informed them of the procedures in place to ensure aviation security. The aviation authority would take "all necessary actions" to return Wizz Air to Chisinau airport as soon as possible, and to attract other low-cost airlines.
Her one-year-old baby, Logan, has been in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) since he was born. For the past three and a half months, he’s been under the care of Mount Sinai Hospital where thousands of nurses are currently striking. But since Mount Sinai’s nurses began picketing Monday, new travel nurses have replaced Logan’s primary care nurses – nurses who don’t fully understand her son’s needs, she said. Lora Ribas' son Logan, seen at Mount Sinai with Shernette, a primary care nurse caring for the one-year-old neonatal intensive care unit patient. Transporting infantsIn preparation for the strike, Mount Sinai announced Friday it would transport newborns in its intensive care unit to other area hospitals.
A NICU nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital told CNN that families of patients in the unit have been deeply concerned about moving their sick infants from one hospital to another. As of Saturday, negotiations across New York’s hospitals were continuing at Montefiore Bronx and the Mount Sinai Morningside and West campuses, according to the nurse’s union. But the president of the nurse’s union told reporters Saturday the main Mount Sinai Hospital complex left the bargaining table late Thursday and no further bargaining sessions have been scheduled since. A Mount Sinai Health System spokesperson told CNN that hospital management is “waiting for the union to come back to us” to resume negotiations. Tentative agreements have also been reached with union nurses at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island.
Nurses at two other area hospitals, Mount Sinai Hospital and Montefiore Bronx, are still due to strike after not reaching agreements. The new tentative agreement at Morningside and West brings the anticipated number of nurses to strike down from 8,700 to about 7,125. A Mount Sinai spokesperson told CNN on Saturday the hospital system is actively bargaining with the Mount Sinai Morningside and West campuses under separate union agreements. Another six will be transferred Sunday from the NICUs at Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai West, the spokesperson said. “In addition, we have transferred close to 100 patients from the affected hospitals – The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside – to unaffected hospitals within the Mount Sinai system and partner hospitals in NYC and we continue to safely discharge patients who were schedule to go home.” All elective surgeries have been postponed, the spokesperson said.
