A coalition of a dozen liberal organizations and labor unions sent a letter to the White House on Thursday night demanding that President Biden end military aid to Israel until its government lifts restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza, the latest indicator of shifting mainstream Democratic opinion on the war. The group includes not only progressive groups like MoveOn and the Working Families Party, but also the mainstream Democratic Center for American Progress and NextGen America, the organization founded and funded by Tom Steyer, a billionaire who ran for president in the 2020 Democratic primary. Other signatories to the letter include the Service Employees International Union and the National Education Association, labor unions that make up key elements of the Democratic Party. The letter calls on Mr. Biden to enforce the Foreign Assistance Act, which bars military support from going to any nation that restricts the delivery of humanitarian aid. law is unequivocal: Countries that obstruct U.S. humanitarian aid cannot receive U.S. military aid under the Foreign Assistance Act or the Arms Export Control Act.”

A Gen Z-led company tapped TikTok influencers in November to persuade young people to vote. "I think the people that cracked the youth voter turnout code are the youth," said Narayanan, whose staff is mostly Gen Z. While it's difficult to pinpoint what exactly may have caused this shift, opinions of young voters should be taken into consideration. Major issues like reproductive rights, climate change, and student-loan forgiveness likely helped with that turnout. Student-loan forgiveness is currently paused due to a ruling from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, in response to a lawsuit filed by six Republican-led states seeking to halt the debt relief. "The youth agenda is taking center stage in the Democratic party"Support for student-loan forgiveness is higher among young voters than the general public.

This week, the final week of polling before the Nov. 8 election, shows Latinos backing Democratic candidates for Congress nationally. NALEO projects about 11.6 million Latinos will vote on Nov. 8 — about the same as in 2018. "I don't know if (concern about abortion) is going to be strong enough to overcome how important economic issues are to Latino voters," Vargas said. In that race, the Republican incumbent, Maria Salazar, is in a contentious race with Democratic challenger and state Sen. Annette Taddeo. On abortion, Democratic candidates are hammering Republicans on the rise in bans and restrictions following the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade in June.
