Mark Critchley and Chris Waugh analyse the main talking points from Old Trafford…What does this mean for Manchester United? Mark CritchleyWhat does this mean for Newcastle United? Howe’s side are level on points with Manchester United, but above Ten Hag’s team on goal difference, a factor which could yet prove critical. Newcastle’s season-long away form, which is merely the 15th-best in the Premier League, has held them back throughout the campaign. What next for Newcastle United?

CNN —Arsenal underlined its place in this year’s English Premier League title race with a statement 4-1 win against Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. But when the chips were down, Arsenal’s players stepped up to produce one of the best performances from any team in the league this year. “We are all living the dream, we have all been dreaming of being here on the biggest stage in the best league in the world,” Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard told TNT Sports after the match. Many fans are therefore rightly cautious about their team’s chances of winning a league title for the first time since 2004, but things do look slightly different this season. “We want the best club in the world, and to be the best club in the world we have to have the best stadium and best atmosphere in the world, that’s for sure,” Arteta said.

CNN —Newcastle United was denied a famous away win over Paris Saint-Germain after the French side was awarded a late penalty following yet another controversial VAR decision. Trailing 1-0 to Alexander Isak’s 24th-minute goal, PSG swarmed the Newcastle goal throughout the second half but without any success. Polish referee Szymon Marciniak awarded the penalty after being recommended by the VAR to view the pitchside monitor. If he’s the best ref in the business – and he probably is – how can he give that?”How on earth is that a penalty for PSG. After the match, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said he was “still coming to terms” with the decision to award PSG a spot kick.

CNN —Newcastle United and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali has been banned for 10 months for violating betting regulations, the president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Gabriele Gravina, said on Thursday. Tonali signed for Newcastle in the summer for a reported fee of $74 million, per Reuters. Tonali came on as a second-half substitute in Newcastle’s Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. The decision comes just weeks after Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli was handed a seven-month ban and fined €12,500 ($13,200) for also breaching betting rules. Tonali and his fellow Italy international teammate Nicolò Zaniolo withdrew from the national team squad earlier this month after their involvement in gambling investigations was released.

The bid from the UK and the island of Ireland stood unopposed after Turkey decided to withdraw its entry in order to co-host Euro 2032 with Italy. Euro 2028 will be held across 10 venues – six in England, one in Wales, one in Scotland, one in Northern Ireland and one in the Republic of Ireland. The stadiums included in the bid are Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Newcastle’s St. James’ Park, Villa Park in Birmingham, Glasgow’s Hampden Park and Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. England and Scotland both staged games for Euro 2020, but 2028 will be the first time that Northern Ireland, Ireland and Wales host a major soccer tournament. CNN —Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé suffered a chastening defeat in the Champions League group stages, losing 4-1 at the hands of Newcastle United on Wednesday. The win put Newcastle top of Group F with four points, a point ahead of PSG. If you make mistakes you pay for that.”Mbappé is challenged for the ball by Jamaal Lascelles and Bruno Guimarães of Newcastle United. Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) acquired PSG in 2011 and lavished money on bringing some of the world’s most talented players to Paris, and a Champions League title seemed inevitable. Mbappé had little effect on the game at St. James’ Park in Newcastle, with the Premier League side completely physically overpowering their French opposition.

CNN —Arsenal stayed in touch with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after a crucial 2-0 victory against third-place Newcastle. The result sees the Gunners move a point behind Manchester City having played one game more than the defending champion. Despite Newcastle’s bright start, Arsenal took the lead through Ødegaard’s brilliant shot from outside the box – the Norwegian’s 15th league goal of the season. Alex Dodd/CameraSport/Getty ImagesWith that own goal, Arsenal could see out the remainder of the game in a more comfortable fashion. “Today, we had to do it here and we did everything we had to do to win the game.”
Joelinton scored Newcastle's second goal. Alex Dodd/CameraSport/Getty ImagesEvery attack seemed to yield a corner, an opportunity, a shot on goal and Newcastle continued to press while Tottenham’s defense continued to buckle. And then, barely two minutes after kickoff, there was another for Isak who made it five goals for the Tyneside club in 21 minutes. “It’s very embarrassing,” Lloris told Sky Sports afterwards. We didn’t show a good face and we could not match the performance of the Newcastle players.”
