Biden's call for $10,000 in student loan forgiveness not included in stimulus plan
  + stars: | 2021-01-14 | by ( Annie Nova | ) sentiment -1.00   time to read: +1 min
Senior officials of the incoming Biden administration say the president-elect still supports forgiving $10,000 in student debt per borrower although there's no mention of the loans being cancelled in his outline for a $1.9 trillion stimulus package unveiled on Thursday. There's also no reference to extending the payment pause and interest waiver for student loan borrowers that's expected to expire this month. An aide for the administration said last week that Biden would give borrowers more time before they have to resume their payments. The vast majority — or around 90% — of federal student loan borrowers have taken advantage of the government's option to pause their payments during the pandemic, data shows. In a recent Pew survey, 6 in 10 borrowers said it would be difficult for them to start paying their student loan bills again in the coming month.

But Theranos destroyed its test-results database in 2018 after providing the government with a useless copy, justifying the use of anecdotal evidence, prosecutors said. "Just dump the entire bespoke database on the Government," a WilmerHale lawyer told Theranos, according to the filing. As early as June 2018, IT specialists at Theranos knew that restoring the LIS database would require a password. (Reuters) - The FBI has warned of possible armed protests being planned for Washington, D.C., and at all 50 U.S. state capitals in the run-up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, a federal law enforcement source said on Monday. FILE PHOTO: U.S. President-elect Joe Biden walks into the Queen Theatre in Wilmington, Delaware, U.S., January 10, 2021. The committee has told Americans not to travel to the inauguration, and said Washington’s National Mall will be covered with 191,500 flags of different sizes, to represent the missing crowds. A U.S. presidential inauguration traditionally draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the U.S. capital, but the ceremonies have been scaled back dramatically because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump said last week he would not attend the ceremony, a decision the president-elect supported.

Earnings for S&P 500 companies are expected to have dropped 9.8% in the fourth quarter from a year ago, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. But earnings are expected to rebound this year, with a gain of 16.4% projected for the first quarter. That forecast has improved since the fall, while S&P 500 earnings are expected to grow 23.6% in 2021, benefiting from easy comparisons with 2020. Earnings for energy and industrials sectors are expected to have declined the most of all sectors in the fourth quarter.

“I feel blessed to have this opportunity as a son of immigrants to be able to serve in Congress,” he said. “Democracy to me is this place of opportunity that is affording me a chance to do something extraordinary.”Andy Kim at a debate in Newark, N.J., on Oct. 31, 2018. (Kim won re-election in November despite voting to impeach the president last year.) The irony of a history-making Korean American lawmaker dusting up after a white supremacist riot is not lost on Kim. “We also need to recognize that how we get through that is by seeing the humanity in each other.

But the military has been called out on multiple occasions in response to civil unrest — and it hasn't just been the National Guard, either. When it comes to curbing civil unrest, the military has been called out on multiple occasions — and it wasn't just the National Guard, either. The New York Draft Riots are still the largest civil disturbance in American history. George Romney (yes, Mitt Romney's dad) chose to call in the Michigan National Guard. Even after the National Guard was deployed, the violence continued, causing $10 million dollars in damages ($77.6 million today) and killing 26 with hundreds injured.

“Here I was trying to be this Princeton-Columbia type of intellectual composer,” Sorey says, “and everybody hated it. Sorey called this beguiling piece “Trio for Harold Budd,” in homage to the composer who reminded him that the beauty of his music mattered more than the beauty of his ideas. Since that moment, he said, he lost interest in “being the most avant-garde person in the room.”During his first year at Columbia, Sorey took classes with the composer, trombonist and musicologist George Lewis, a member of the A.A.C.M. But at Lewis’s urging, he worked most closely with the composer Fred Lerdahl, a specialist in tonal harmony, who advised his thesis. This was the beginning of Sorey’s “Slow Movement for Piano,” a work of wintry Romanticism later recorded by his trio.

Supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump clash with police officers in front of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, U.S., January 6, 2021. So there is some sensitivity to what is going on in Washington, but I don’t think it’s long term. These actions, fueled by lies and wild conspiracy theories espoused by President Trump, must be unequivocally condemned by every corner of our society. “It has pulled the market back a little bit I don’t think it turns the day to a negative environment. I don’t think investors are necessarily looking for more upside in the VIX on this.
