Jim Ratcliffe of INEOS meets members of the press ahead of the Premier League match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on January 14, 2024 in Manchester, England. New Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said on Friday that return on investment had nothing to do with his decision to invest in the English soccer giant. Ratcliffe's comments come shortly after the British petrochemicals billionaire and INEOS chief executive finally completed a deal to buy a minority stake in Manchester United. The Glazer family, which have owned Manchester United since 2005, retain a majority stake under the terms of the agreement. "And also, we have moved into consumer markets, you know certainly automotive is a huge consumer market obviously, and the INEOS name wasn't particularly well known so, through sport, obviously people are getting to know INEOS," Ratcliffe said.

GAROUA, Cameroon, Sept 12 (Reuters) - A nervy Cameroon scored twice in the second half to beat Burundi 3-0 in Garoua on Tuesday and qualify for January’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, overcoming their plucky opponents as Andre Onana marked his return to the team with a series of key saves. Cameroon had needed to win the game to ensure a place in the finals. Victory saw them finish top of three-team Group C and also ensured that Namibia would qualify with them while Burundi missed out. With Group C settled, the field for the 24-team Cup of Nations finals in the Ivory Coast from Jan. 13-Feb. 11 next year is complete. CNN —Cristiano Ronaldo has found himself in unfamiliar territory this season – but no matter where he is in the stadium, the cameras follow. After it was announced he would start Portugal’s World Cup round of 16 match against Switzerland from the bench, huge swathes of photographers swarmed around the team’s substitutes prior to kick off. All eyes were on Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday, despite him starting on the bench. With his only real chance of the match, Ronaldo buried his shot past Yann Sommer but was denied a goal by the linesman’s offside flag. His star quality remains, too, with the Lusail Stadium filled with chants of “Ronaldo, Ronaldo” when he entered the field of play to arguably the biggest roar of the night – the game’s seven goals included.
It is no secret that the Portuguese superstar has not enjoyed a fairytale reunion with Manchester United ever since he returned to Old Trafford last year. Since trying to force a move away from United over the summer, Ronaldo has featured sparingly, only making 16 appearances for the Red Devils. “He thinks he is [bigger than Ten Hag] and in the footballing world he is, but at Manchester United right now he’s not. Manchester United beat Fulham on Sunday, taking the club to fifth place in the Premier League table. In that statement, the club said: “Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.
