The Notice of Opposition was filed against Williams' attempt to trademark "P.Inc." AdvertisementPink has taken legal action against Pharrell Williams to stop his attempt to trademark the term "P.Inc." Pink, 44, filed the Notice of Opposition against Williams through her company, Lefty Paw Print, on Thursday. Gilbert Flores/Variety via Getty ImagesLefty Paw Print wrote that Williams filed a trademark application for "P.Inc" in May 2023. Hugo's lawyers said Williams' trademark attempt violates an agreement between him and Hugo to split everything equally.

Astronomers have nabbed a rare opportunity to watch a planet shrink in real-time. The Jupiter-sized planet, located 160 light years away, is orbiting its host star so closely that the star is boiling the planet's atmosphere. The boiling is so intense, that the world has developed a comet-like tail stretching 350,000 miles behind it, scientists announced on Tuesday. Don't retire on this planetThe planet, called WASP-69b, circles very closely to its star, completing an orbit in under four days. Because it's so large, it takes much longer to lose its atmosphere, giving scientists plenty of time to study it.

CNN —More than half of the world’s population live in urban areas where nature can feel like a distant concern. Thriving ecosystems do, however, exist within our cities — even beneath our feet — and embracing urban nature can be a powerful force for change. Cape Town’s baboons can often be found rummaging through garbage cans and around backyards, putting them at greater risk of conflict with humans. Easy access to food from Cape Town’s trash means baboons spend less time and energy foraging, and more on socializing with potential mates and the rest of their group. The city has begun taking proactive measures to keep them away from Cape Town’s outskirts and in their natural hillside habitat.

This illustration shows the orbital motion of six planets discovered orbiting star HD110067 located around 100 light-years from Earth. The planets all are a type called 'sub-Neptunes,' which have diameters between 2 and 3 times that of Earth. Earth, the largest of our solar system's four rocky planets, has a diameter of about 7,900 miles (12,750 km). The planets orbit the star between 6% and 20% of the distance between Earth and the sun. "None of them are in the nominal habitable zone for terrestrial planets.

And the planets, labeled b through g, revolve around the star in a celestial dance known as orbital resonance. For every six orbits completed by planet b, the closest planet to the star, the outermost planet g completes one. As planet c makes three revolutions around the star, planet d does two, and when planet e completes four orbits, planet f does three. Detecting a mysteryResearchers first took notice of the star system in 2020 when NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, detected dips in the brightness of HD110067. “It shows us the pristine configuration of a planetary system that has survived untouched.”The discovery is the second time Cheops has helped reveal a planetary system with orbital resonance.

Planets beyond our solar system have a size gap, where worlds seem to shrink past a certain range. Scientists think this is because some sub-Neptunes shrink — losing their atmospheres and speeding through the size gap until they are as small as a super-Earth. AdvertisementThe planets themselves may be pushing their atmospheres awayShrinking exoplanets may lack the mass (and therefore the gravity) to hold their atmospheres close. AdvertisementThe other hypothesis, called photoevaporation, says that a planet's atmosphere is dissipated by the radiation of its host star. AdvertisementThe scientists found that most of the planets there retained their atmosphere, making the core-powered mass loss a more likely cause of eventual atmosphere loss.

Ukraine struck a brand new Russian warship in Crimea, and experts say the ship likely won't be operable any time soon. AdvertisementAdvertisementUkraine struck a brand new Russian warship far behind enemy lines, analysts say, likely rendering it inoperable for the foreseeable future. They have damaged or destroyed several Black Sea Fleet ships, and in this case, they took a Russian ship out of action before it could even be commissioned. Like many of its previous attacks in and around occupied Crimea, Ukraine's strikes on the Askold were likely conducted by Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles, observers said. The missiles were likely also used in a recent bombardment of Sevastopol that damaged two warships and surrounding shipyard facilities in September.

Ukraine modified an anti-ship cruise missile for land-attack missions. The Neptune missile, which was used to sink the Russian ship Moskva, is now hunting down air defense systems. The R-360 Neptune is a subsonic cruise missile that was initially built by Ukraine to counter adversary naval assets. The Ukrainians have long sought the US military's Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), but Washington's been reluctant to send these weapons. Smoke rises from the shipyard that was reportedly hit by Ukrainian missile attack in Sevastopol, Crimea, in this still image from video taken September 13, 2023.

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope discovered signs of a vast ocean on the planet K2-18 b. Astronomers can't directly look at the surface of the planet, called K2-18 b, but Webb analyzed its atmosphere for hints of what may lie below. That's a strong mark against the molecule's existence on K2-18 b. Confirming these findings requires a lot more observation of K2-18 b. As Blain put it: "K2-18 b is not exactly an Earth twin."

At one point, it seemed like he might give up on the conversation altogether. “I mean, do you like listening to yourself on voice mail?”Williams, 50, was raised in Virginia Beach by his father, Pharaoh, a handyman, and his mother, Carolyn, a teacher. A dedicated polymath who shifts between styles, genres and media, Williams is his best, most creative self in the presence of water. He grew up in a housing project called Atlantis, right by the beach; today, he holds an annual music and art festival in Virginia Beach called Something in the Water. And when he’s not in Miami on Biscayne Bay, he spends his time in Paris, where he has a music studio at the LVMH headquarters overlooking the Seine.

Louis Vuitton is in talks to hire Pharrell Williams , the music producer and streetwear entrepreneur, to be its next men’s head designer, according to people familiar with the matter. If appointed, Mr. Williams, 49, would assume the role previously held by Virgil Abloh, who died in November 2021. Mr. Abloh was the first Black American to be appointed to a head design position at a European luxury house. Mr. Williams, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., who rose to prominence in the late ’90s as a part of hip-hop production duo the Neptunes, could be the second.

Turns out it’s the same sample, a sleight of ear designed to trigger warm nostalgia, and also maybe a little confusion. Even its video is optimized for recognition, with Santana doing the same stomp Beyoncé does in hers, in an almost identical outfit. Throughout 2022, that gambit has been deployed again and again — by pop singers and rappers, established stars and newbies. Here, old songs — hip-hop classics, pop novelties and more — are scrunched and stretched sometimes to the point of absurdity. These songs are concessions that say the quiet part out loud — everyone has always been borrowing voraciously, from everyone else, constantly.
