Heavy rains caused roads to flood, submerged cars and subways and cut power to some parts of the city. Heavy rain caused a section of roof at New Delhi’s airport to collapse on Friday, crushing one man to death, and injuring eight others. In Uttarakhand, video posted by ANI News shows vehicles swept away following heavy rain being hauled out of floodwaters. Meanwhile, seasonal monsoon rains usually start in June until September, bringing bands of heavy rains from the southwest that quench fields, nourish crops, and replenish reservoirs. Last June, nearly half a million people in northeast India were affected by severe flooding after heavy rains battered the region.

New Delhi CNN —India’s relentless heat wave killed 33 poll workers as the country concluded its final day of voting in the world’s largest general election, officials said, underscoring the impact of searing temperatures in recent days. Voters and election workers have endured an extended period of unusually high temperatures across much of the country’s north as India voted in a seven-phase election that began on April 19. Of that number, at least 43 were election workers, authorities said. The capital territory of Delhi sweltered to its highest-ever temperature of 49.9 degrees Celsius (121.8 degrees Fahrenheit) last week, as the oppressive heat wave forced authorities to impose water rationing. “Heat wave conditions over Northwest, Central & East India are likely to continue with reduced intensity during next 3 days,” the Indian Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

Dick's Sporting Goods has something unusual for a retailer: an app to manage youth team sports. The service now boasts 5 million users who spend a half hour per day on the platform. Dick's says the business will bring in $100 million this year, in addition to driving retail sales. Now, the aptly named Game Changer platform is driving real revenue with some notable engagement, Dick's CEO Lauren Hobart told investors on the company's earnings call Wednesday. Hobart said last quarter saw 5 million users who spent a half hour per day on the platform, and Game Changer says it supports over a million teams and over 7 million games per year.

There's only one person to blame for the company's shambolic state and only one person whose exit could save Tesla: Elon Musk. Investors want to see a concrete plan for a whole new fleet of Teslas made for a leaner, meaner EV market. The company needs a serious leader with practical ideas — no self-driving gimmicks, no blowtorches, no broken Cybertrucks, no shitposting, no video-game marathons, and no casual ketamine use. AdvertisementA true visionary CEO — which Musk has long claimed to be — would have pressed the advantage that Tesla developed in the EV market. He asserted that Tesla was not a car company but rather an AI robotics company.

Elon Musk has started an electric-vehicle price war that Tesla can't finish. In April, Ford CEO Jim Farley said Tesla's cuts could start an unsustainable price war. If it slides back into the red because of its price cuts, expect investors to run in another direction. In China, Tesla's price cuts even sparked protests among owners who paid more for their vehicles. Waging price war during a downturn is a challenge unlike any Tesla has faced before.

He said deadlines at Amazon were aggressive and that he felt he wasn't allowed to ask questions. We didn't have a lot of money, and I always believed that I needed a high-paying job to support my family. I was really happy I landed a job at Amazon right after graduation and felt a huge weight lift from my shoulders. A growing number of retailers are blaming retail theft for hurting their profits this year. Estimates say inventory shrink will exceed $100 billion for 2023, with over a third due to external theft. Inventory shrink is an accounting term that refers to several reasons merch goes missing, including damage, managerial errors, and, most conspicuously, theft. Dick's Sporting Goods cited an "alarming" rise in retail crime as responsible for one-third of the decline in merchandise profits for the last quarter. CFO Navdeep Gupta said the surprisingly high inventory losses were discovered as a result of the company's annual inventory audit.

However, the number of incidents and the organized retail crime impact came in significantly higher than we anticipated," Gupta said. Gupta said inventory shrink accounted for one-third of the decline in merchandise profits. AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile theft is the largest contributor to inventory shrink, the figure also includes merchandise lost to damage or other errors. The National Retail Federation estimates that retail shrink cost retailers a combined $94.5 billion in 2021, up from $90.8 billion in 2020.
