Until this week’s debate in Philadelphia, though, she planned to honor her conservative principles and write in some other Republican. Last year's U.S. Supreme Court decision rescinding a five-decade-old right to abortion has reshaped American abortion policy, shifting power to states. Sales of abortion pills in 2022 were up 60%, according to Nikolay Bespalov, development director of the RNC Pharma analytical company. A recent Health Ministry decree restricted circulation of abortion pills, used to terminate pregnancies in the first trimester. Regional authorities have tried to get private clinics to stop offering abortions, with varying success. In Tatarstan, about a third of all private clinics no longer provide them, officials said.

June 9 (Reuters) - Some relatives of people stranded in flooded villages following the collapse of the giant Nova Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine said on Friday that their loved ones were still stuck on roofs with dwindling food supplies and urgently needed rescuing. Volunteers and workers from Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry have been evacuating people from flooded Russian-controlled areas since Tuesday's disaster - which Moscow and Kyiv blame on each other. The Kremlin has praised the rescue efforts, as have some of the people who have been evacuated to safety. Several people told Reuters they had repeatedly called hotlines for Russian emergency services to rescue their relatives, but to no avail. Some people said they couldn’t persuade their relatives to evacuate, with some preferring to wait until the floodwaters retreated.

What is autism? An expert explains
  + stars: | 2023-04-12 | by ( Matt Villano | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +10 min
To mark Autism Awareness Month, CNN talked with him about what autism is and what causes it. Geschwind: About a decade ago, the term “autism spectrum disorder” was adopted to encompass everything that we called autism into one rubric. When I started researching autism 25 years ago, the autism rate was 1 in 1,000 or 1 in 2,000. You can calculate a risk score for having autism based on genetics, (but) right now, the risk score for autism is not that predictive because we haven’t done enough research. The problem is that for many autistic individuals, current therapies are not that effective.
Russia had said last week its troops would occupy positions that were easier to defend on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River. Russia had artillery still capable of striking Kherson from those new positions, but "we also have something to answer with", she said. "The mobilisation declaration and the strengthening of geopolitical and sanctions risk are launching the second wave of the economic crisis," said Evgeny Suvorov, an economist at CentroCreditBank, expecting Russia's economic contraction to worsen in the final months of the year. But there was no acknowledgement of any link to his sudden partial mobilisation announcement on Sept. 21. The central bank on Tuesday said economic activity in Russia slowed significantly at the end of September. "The main consequence of mobilisation is the loss of human capital," said veteran economist Natalya Zubarevich. "It was possible to count exclusively on human capital to pull the economy through, but now a part of this human capital of productive age is subject to mobilisation and another part is leaving," Polevoy said.
