(AP) — A teachers strike in a Boston suburb entered its eighth day Tuesday — one of the longest in recent state history — with both sides still unable to agree on salaries and other issues, and tensions fraying. The school committee proposal addresses union priorities, according to the school committee, including 12 weeks paid parental leave, smaller class sizes and increased social worker support for students. It is illegal for public workers, including school teachers, to strike in Massachusetts. In total, the union now owes $475,000 for the strike that began Jan. 19, according to The Boston Globe. The Newton mother of three — two high schoolers and a student in 8th grade - is asking the court to compel the teachers union to end the strike.

Today, Reddit's subreddits take center stage. But these advice subreddits might not be so different from the agony aunt advice columns of yesteryear. But beyond them is a funky constellation of subreddits where users come to pour out their innermost thoughts and burning questions. The poster wrote, "I feel like even at 28, no matter how hard I try to fit in and be nice, I somehow mess it up." A clip from a 2019 speech by Nigeria’s outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari has been shared online again by people falsely claiming that it shows Buhari saying the results of the 2023 general election are void. In the two-minute video, Buhari asks attendees of a caucus meeting of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to encourage their constituents to be patient and to peacefully “vote again”. “Breaking news the 2023 election has been canceled watch from President #Buhari,” reads one comment on Twitter which included the clip on Feb. 28 (here). But the video is from 2019 and is unrelated to the 2023 election. Meanwhile, results for the 2023 election can be seen on the INEC website (here).
An image of a spreadsheet that was shown during a broadcast of Nigeria’s presidential election has been falsely touted online as evidence of a voting miscount. At timestamp 7:43:17 here , a spreadsheet is shown onscreen whereby the result for each party is tallied at the bottom of separate columns. The sum of the 13 rows in the APC column, for example, is 151,850. However, the apparent mismatched totals are a result of neither the screenshot nor the broadcast showing the entire spreadsheet. There are 13 rows shown in the NTA broadcast, which is therefore the results of 13 local government areas.

KADUNA, Nigeria Oct 16 (Reuters) - Zamfara state in northwestern Nigeria ordered five media outlets to close on Sunday after they covered a political rally for the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), which took place in violation of a state ban on political activities. "Zamfara State Commissioner of Police has been directed to enforce full compliance and arrest of any staff of these media organizations... performing any duties in violation of the shut down," said a statement from the state security council released on Sunday. The statement named five outlets, Pride FM Radio Gusau, NTA Gusau, Amji TV Gusau, Gamji TV Gusau and Alumma TV Gusau. Zamfara's political activity ban came alongside other measures, including restricting movement in some local areas and shutting down several roads. The statement directed security officials to "deal ruthlessly" with anyone found violating the orders.
